I’m a professionally trained former news editor/photographer/reporter with more than 15 years of experience. (Left the industry years ago because of the starvation pay, garbage hours, etc.) Some of the BS that passes for a source these days is maddening, terrifying and comical at the same time.
One of my duties as an editor used to be source validation to ensure our reports were accurate, attributed correctly and contained true, credible information. Libel lawsuits are expensive. Media companies are notorious cheap bastards
If one of my reporters filed a story citing some of the sources I’ve seen in this thread, I might’ve fired them or at least questioned their news gathering abilities.
Signs of a poor source:
Poorly written copy with spelling, grammar and/or punctuation errors
Inflammatory headlines with loaded language
Articles with no byline attribution
Sources quoted not attributed with full names or detailed credentials
URLs ending in .co
Loaded language in copy that shows bias (the communist left; the fascist right)
