LMAO on what planet. Horrible callForward progress was stopped.
Non fumble was terrible call but that's no excuse for team shitting the bedThese refs have basically taken over the game. Terrible
whistles were blowing- funny thing though, they never played the sound on all the replays but on initial play- at least 2 whistles had blown before the fumble- and it was obvious that momentum was already stopped. It was a fumble. The whistle never blew.
If you say so. It was pretty quiet around me - a bunch of middle-aged guys sitting on their hands - I heard no whistle until well after the ball came out.whistles were blowing- funny thing though, they never played the sound on all the replays but on initial play- at least 2 whistles had blown before the fumble- and it was obvious that momentum was already stopped.
I wanted it but it just was not a fumble and whistles did blow
You could hear it clearly on the live broadcastIf you say so. It was pretty quiet around me - a bunch of middle-aged guys sitting on their hands - I heard no whistle until well after the ball came out.
No.. whistle was after ball started coming out.. but that was not nearly as bad as what they did to us in WV in 2006. That set a standard by which we can judge such things. You could hear it clearly on the live broadcast
She was horrible. Should never Ref a FBS game again.Last week we praised the ref. When this game began I praised them.. and then.. just.. wow.. some of the worst calls and no-calls I ever saw... in a single half, never mind a single game.
End of first half.. we get a first down with 30 seconds on clock.. and clock doesn't stop. to move chains nor to place the ball.. then it takes 10 seconds to notice a Temple player down and start the clock.
Now.. was that proper with the new rule changes? I thought inside 2 minutes they stop the clock on 1st downs until it is set... they may let the play-clock run.. which I find odd.. because the refs could let the play clock run and take their sweet time spotting the ball. stealing seconds from the offense.
Anyway.. some of the PIs against use were AWFUL.. at least 2 important ones. And then to choose to not see nor call that Temple PI in the endzone? That's just insane. And Schiano's flag... he asked for teh official to come talk to him.. that's their job! He got a flag for insisting the official come talk to him? That's insane.
At least two officials seemed to wish to punish us and reward Temple.. protect them.
And has that female official ever thrown a flag? Was she on some kind of take-daughter-to-work day thing? Is she an intern? She saw the PI right in front of her also.
Hope those refs get lost on their drives home... they certainly couldn't find a way to do a good job tonight.
Yes - prior to the no-call PI in the end zone, on the drive that Temple scored, she called the phantom PI where we never even touched the receiver. And has that female official ever thrown a flag? Did she? Couldn't tell on TV. Was that the one where there was one flag.. then at least 2 more refs tossed one to support the call?Yes - prior to the no-call PI in the end zone, on the drive that Temple scored, she called the phantom PI where we never even touched the receiver.
Absolutely horrid, glad we didn't let them steal the W from us.
This is the same crew that f’d us in a couple games last year. I remember the female side judge and her partner. These refs have basically taken over the game. Terrible
No, it was on Melton near the RU sideline. 3rd qtr was taken over by refs. Also, found it interesting that at the beginning of the 2nd half right before kickoff the video board kept playing the late hit on Wimsatt at the end of the first half - probably played it at least ten times and three refs at the 50 yd line didn’t take their eyes off it.Did she? Explain how 36-7 is shitting the bed?Non fumble was terrible call but that's no excuse for team shitting the bed
I didn’t piece this together but the terrible calls starting in the third quarter make a lot more sense nowNo, it was on Melton near the RU sideline. 3rd qtr was taken over by refs. I didn't hear the whistle on that one, but figured that was the only reason it wasn't ruled a fumble. Watching the replays on the scoreboard (love that they're showing multiple replays from different angles and even slo-mo back and forth shots this year), it looked like he was still fighting for yardage and should've been a fumble, but if the whistle was blown, then it's moot.Forward progress WAS stopped and if you listened during the play- the whistles were already blown too.
Plenty of other calls screwed up though.
I just found it very odd and wonder who made that decision. Was it a unilateral decision by video board operator/game production staff or did Schiano tell them to do it.I didn’t piece this together but the terrible calls starting in the third quarter make a lot more sense now
I’m not sure what the exact rule says on that, but I was always under the impression that forward progress was considered stopped when the ball carrier was being held by the defender(s) and stopped or driven back with no apparent ability to move forward (regardless of whether the ball carrier was still fighting or not).I didn't hear the whistle on that one, but figured that was the only reason it wasn't ruled a fumble. Just watched the highlight, still think it should have been a fumble and these refs were PGMOL level bad.
Queued up to the play in question (11:24 3rd):
No, that's if you fumble forward and the ball goes out of bounds. In that instance it is returned to the point of the fumble.Question about a different fumble- When Temple fumbled forward and the fumble was created before the 1st down marker- I always thought that if the offense fumbles forward and recovers their own fumble, it goes back to the spot of the fumble.
What are the actual rule on that? Is it because we touched the ball before they recovered? Does it only apply to the RZ or is that a NFL rule and not college?
My guess is that if the officials determine that progress is stopped, they can declare the play dead even if the whistle comes a split second afterwards.I had to go back to the DVR- it is strange because when I was watching it on TV live- I 100% believed I heard whistles as soon as he started to be pushed backwards. And my first thought had been, they were very quick, even if they may have been right. But after arguing this in the threads and being 100% sure- yo all had me have to go back to the actual DVR- and you guys are right, there where no whistles before the ball came out.
Now, was his momentum already stopped, I believe it was but there was no whistle- so, it should have been called a fumble on the field. I was wrong.
Thanks- as I was thinking the holly roller play with the Raiders. No, that's if you fumble forward and the ball goes out of bounds. In that instance it is returned to the point of the fumble.
If you forward fumble and recover, you get to keep the yardage. There may be an exception for fourth down.
It's a fair question, as the NFL rule about not advancing the ball via a fumble was in response to the Stabler to Casper fumble play. As far as I know, the rule, cited in Wikipedia is the same, now in college and pro as per the following: "A fumbled ball may be recovered and advanced by either team (except, in American football, after the two-minute warning in either half or 4th down, when the fumbler is the only offensive player allowed to advance the ball, otherwise the ball is ruled dead at the spot of fumble, except when it is recovered for a loss.)." As this wasn't 4th down, nor in the last 2 minutes, the fumble recovered forward from where the ball was fumbled is the right call.Thanks- as I was thinking the holly roller play with the Raiders.

Ha! I mentioned that that's what I would have done (the replay board). No, it was on Melton near the RU sideline. 3rd qtr was taken over by refs.
