Only about 10 per side east and west. Lots of those schools are so spread out from one another to make leagues. SMC is about the best option to stay kind of close as a league. Not sure about all those down east schools. LIke S Davidson for example is only somewhat close to WS Prep, and College Prep in High Point (I think is joining the NCHSAA this coming season has football also). C Central is 45 minutes plus away and N Stokes over an hour easy. I assume the 1A schools will be combined into 1A/2A split leagues due to travel issues.
I hope they play a limited 1a championship and have 1a/2a conference. being 200 is very restrictive to play a 500 plus for a title.
Again should have gone to 6 classifications but oh well
Jones played 8-man this past season - as did Hobgood, Columbia, Mattamuskeet, and Sallie Howard. Not sure if that will continue or not, now that the larger schools are out of their division.
I was wondering if more schools in the 100-200 student range would start playing football now that they wouldn’t have to play schools 3-4 times their size. I guess time will tell, but if not and there’s no combined class the playoffs won’t be much fun.
So what’s a better option? Tarboro going to 20 plus titles games in a row for 1a East? I am ok with giving it a shot and see what happens in a small school classification.
Sallie Howard ? Surely this can't be the same Ms. Howard that used to walk around downtown Greensboro with a helium tank strapped to her leg and singing " Disco Duck," the song that was performed by Grimsley grad Rick Dees , after she took a gigantic hit from the helium tank. If this is the same Ms. Howard, congratulations for turning your life around and even having a school named for you.
Some folks may not know Rick Dee's roommate at UNC was from outskirts of Mt Airy Ken Lowe founder of HGTV......carry on
That could make for an interesting Davidson-Randolph County conference in 3A.
Deana, do you think Eastern Randolph could be put on the Starmount schedule? Losing Mt Airy, ER and Heritage is tough.
