Future conference consolidation . . .

If you are LSU and Alabama do you benefit or not benefit if MSU and Ole Miss are no longer part of your conference? The money is a no brainer but Mississippi recruiting grounds void of instate competition also looks pretty sweet for them. Both MSU and Ole Miss have a lot of work to do over the next 10 or so years I think.

who gives a **** if UF AU UA UGA LSU all want us out?

IT takes 11 unanimous votes......meaning Ole Miss would vote us out too......OUr state legislature wouldnt let UM vote that way.....so, there is one benefit for them being in the same state.

It wont happen in my lifetime......I swear to it....

It would only take 10...and I dont think it will happen either

But you cant be blind to some of the benefits the other schools would receive from doing it

in the pm to you we are damned if we do, and damned if we don't...

A. You can't dispute that we would win more if we left the SEC

B. Our budget would take a hit- but we would still be on par with the rest of Conference USA...even our budget where it is, it's half of what the top schools in the SEC have...budget is not everything, but it makes the most difference in football

I don't want to leave the SEC, but it's not exactly the best thing for us to achieve success...especially the way the landscape of college football is changing with all the money that's out there

rather than the middle to top of the other pile.
It's not even a contest.

Southern Ms wins the CUSA with some regularity, but can't draw **** for fans...because they know there is something better.

7-5 MSU beats a CUSA champion...

And a two loss SEC team has won a national title while an undefeated CUSA team still may not even receive consideration to play for a national title. I think i'll take the risk of being battered and bruised in the SEC for all the rewards it has instead of walking my way through the CUSA and getting nothing in return.

Being in a non-BCS football conference in the South is football suicide. Ask Memphis. Ask Tulane. Ask MTSU. Ask Troy. Ask UAB. Ask LA Tech. What you are suggesting is joining their ranks simply because we aren't the best of the best. Why?

Are you honestly telling us that you would rather us drop a level in prestige, bail on the talent pool available to a BCS conference team, and bail on a significant portion of our revenue sources...all in the name of picking up a couple more wins during the year...wins against Tulane, Troy, and UAB and sliding into a low-tier bowl AT BEST?! The Liberty Bowl, yes, the Liberty Bowl, would be our Super Bowl. Piss on that, that's boring. I'd rather lose with a chance of being able to impress somebody than beat up on a bunch of nobodies all year and get rewarded with a trip the Memphis.

Plus, you've failed to think about something very key in this. You are assuming that we are going to out-recruit, or even keep up with our new competition. What does Starkville, MS have to offer other than the SEC brand? Large empty facilities? We are going to have to drop down to 3 star players being the new studs of our classes - with the majority of our classes being 2 star players. If I'm a 2/3 star recruit offered by MSU/Memphis/Tulane, you aren't getting me to spend 4 years of my life Starkville, Mississippi without the opportunity to play against the best of the best. If I'm going to play in a crap conference, I'm at least going to do it in a city with a little more entertainment.

One final thing, what you effectively are doing is trying to argue into the position that it's better to win (against nobodies) than to not win at all (against somebodies). That's fine, you are entitled to that opinion. Except with you, you have a post history in the thousands bashing our basketball team for routinely beating up on a bunch of nobodies and winning titles that nobody cares about. Which makes you full of ****.

QUIT TROLLING YOU DUBMASS!!!

You know, Ithought the original post about leaving the conference was just to stir the pot. Now Ithink basically he's stepped up his game to win his firstDDDY title.

Ask Memphis- Memphis say 5 bowl games since 2003 and a NC game appearance in basketball

Tulane and LaTech said they had beaten our *** the last few years too
UAB said Sweet 16 in 2004 and that they had as many bowl appearances the last 9 years as we did
Middle Tennessee said they have as many bowl games the last 10 years as we do

Not to mention Conference USA teams that continue to be ranked while we dont

"I'd rather lose with a chance of being able to impress somebody than beat up on a bunch of nobodies all year and get rewarded with a trip the Memphis."

Boise State and Utah say that route can be rewarded with a BCS bid if you have a quality team

"We are going to have to drop down to 3 star players being the new studs of our classes - with the majority of our classes being 2 star players."

We get leftovers now as it is- we arent beating out LSU, Bammer, or Fla for 5 star players

They said they had to cheat in order to get to the NC game.

I'd rather just cheat in the SEC.

Why don't you ask if anyone in that make believe conference wants to join a real one. Hell, Fred Smith was offering to pony up 10 million clams a year to bribe Memphis' way into a BCS conference. Why would he do that if they had such a great spot in CUSA? All of this despite the fact their bball program making it to a national title game and they still want out!!! And C34 wants to downgrade??

Not one of those CUSA teams you just mentioned had any memorable seasons. Why? They beat up on a bunch of cupcakes all year and went to some low-tier bowl as a reward for it. I'm not signing up for that any time soon.

Utah? Did you just cite that as an example? Read the news, they are going to the Pac-10. If the Mountain West is such a good situation, why are they leaving?

Boise State is the only program I can't explain. They are the anomaly. But, if you are going to base your opinion on one school's freak success in a non-BCS conference (who also is content with staying there), you are FAR dumber than I had ever anticipated.

These schools are ASPIRING to be in BCS conferences and your dumb *** wants to switch with them. What's wrong with you?????

"Ask Memphis- Memphis say 5 bowl games since 2003 and a NC game appearance in basketball"
Memphis would trade that all in for a BCS conference. They lobbied the Big East to go with Louisville, they spent millions of dollars on the former Big East Commisioner to tell them how to get in a BCS conference, and now Fred Smith is throwing his weight around to get them in a BCS conference. There isn't a CUSA school that would say no if we called them today and asked if they wanted to trade spots.

"Tulane and LaTech said they had beaten our *** the last few years too
UAB said Sweet 16 in 2004 and that they had as many bowl appearances the last 9 years as we did
Middle Tennessee said they have as many bowl games the last 10 years as we do"
Look at our coaching situation over the last few years. A coach that lost his fire, and a coach that put his own agenda ahead of winning.
Basketball, you can name Cinderella teams until your face turns blue that made it further than Stansbury. In CUSA, normally one team goes to the dance, and that is the conference tourney winner. You don't win the conference you may not even get an NIT invite. This goes back to the point ckdog made, your logic with basketball and football is a double standard.

"Not to mention Conference USA teams that continue to be ranked while we dont"
And every year the ranked CUSA conference winner loses to the 8th/9th best SEC team in the Liberty Bowl.

"Boise State and Utah say that route can be rewarded with a BCS bid if you have a quality team"
Utah jumped at their first chance to go to a bigger conference. Who knows what BSU is thinking. They play in a weak conference and get up for 1-2 big games a year.

"We get leftovers now as it is- we arent beating out LSU, Bammer, or Fla for 5 star players"
This is the worst of all the points. If we aren't in the SEC, right now we don't have McPhee, Cox, Boyd, Banks, Wright, Bumphis, Russell, and Sherrod just to name a few current players. If we aren't in the SEC then look at Croom's first craptacular class to see what we'd look like every year. Ifyou think we can beat anybody with classes like that then you need to lay the pipe down.Oh yeah, Mullen andthe bulk of hisstaff would bolt before the ink dries on the new conference contract.

The only team it would benefit if we stepped down would be Ole Miss. It would be no more splitting the state talent between 2 SEC schools.

is that he is using a school where not even an alum is offering $10 million to be invited to a BCS conference but Coach wants to leave the best one. Pure idiocy.

to the league and being courted by other (much smaller) conferences - but intellectually there is very little upside to leaving the league.
