Didn't think the B1G wanted to play FCS schools? When they change their mind.

Cousins will be disappointed that North Dakota St doesn't get a shot at us..

I'd like to see us play 1 team each from the:
Big 12
Sec
Pac
Acc

1 easy one
1 med one
1 easy one
1 difficult one

like ku, lsu, oregon state and clemson

the easy ones let you build up (or heal) and the med and difficult ones keep you grounded in reality. granted there is more parity now and it's hard to predict the future, lsu and clemson could trade places within 2 years.

Around July of this year it was announced, when a B1G team has 4 home games out of the 9, that school is allowed to play FCS.

Not sure how it's gonna work in the years our B1G schedule hasn't been released (ex:2022) but maybe there's been additional discussions to allow this.

Thanks for clarifying.

Even then, I agree with the OP. I hate games against FCS opponents. You gain nothing and can only lose. Example: Iowa vs NDSU 2016. We play Northern Iowa this upcoming year as well

Agree it stinks, but as long as SEC allows FCS opponents AND only has 8 conference games, we have to do our best to maximize W-L records.

Weak Non-con games also means we do not get much national exposure. Nobody is following or talking about games against Georgia Southern or
Akron, unless we lose. Nothing interesting or newsworthy until 2021 when we play Oklahoma.

It's a lose lose situation. You beat them by fifty and no one is impressed in the slightest and folks will ***** about the defense giving up a score or two or the QB throwing an interception. If it is close or you lose... oh my.

When they went to 9 conference games- this was allowed
At the end of the day- you LOSE a home game every other year with this format
By adding in an FCS opponent that doesnt require a home and home- you can get 6 or 7 home games a year instead of 5 or 6

There is enough good competition in the BIG now - that this works

Ideally, you'd play one cupcake, one middling, and one tough non-conference opponent each year.

These Dakota teams aren't necessarily cupcakes, though. SDSU would have destroyed Nebraska this year.

This is the reason. ^^^

Nebraska wants/needs 7 home games every year. When we only have 4 conference home games, we MUST have 3 home non-conference games.

It is not so easy to get those games by scheduling only FBS because of the home-and-home style schedules that almost all FBS athletic directors want when they are trying to figure out future schedules.

FBS teams want a home-and-home, while FCS do not get those (tiny stadiums?).

Possibly might be a little difference is what you have to pay an FCS vs an FBS team...

FCS:
— South Dakota State: Sept 12, 2020 ($515,000)
— South Dakota State: Aug. 31, 2024 ($530,000)
— South Dakota State: Sept. 9, 2028 ($575,000)
— North Dakota Sept. 3, 2022 ($515,000)
— North Dakota Sept. 19, 2026 ($560,000)

FBS:

— Georgia Southern-Sept. 10, 2022 ($1.423 million)

There is enough good competition in the BIG now - that this works

Unless you are Wisconsin and get ridiculed for having a weak schedule...

I do not want to be playing NDSU anytime soon. Maybe in the next couple of years. But not now. Those mother ef'ers are WAAAAY too good. If the Huskers played NDSU this year the Bison would have waxed the 'skers. Easily dropping a fifty spot on the corn. Shoot, if NDSU played in the BIG-10 they would seriously compete for the west division title. I have a ton of respect for the Bi-zzzzzon.
