I know this has been discussed ad nauseam but I havent seen it recently AND its slow....kickoff cant get here soon enough.
Anyway,.....give me 5 OOC teams that you would like to see us play that we have a REALISTIC shot at playing,.....I know everyone would like to play Penn St, Michigan, Oklahoma etc. but they are not going to come to SVegas.
Here is my list: for home and home games
ARMY --good chance at a win and a dang good road trip.
WASHINGTON--another VERY GOOD road trip and a possible win
C. , E. , or W. Michigan--would just like to have an excuse to go to Michigan in Sept or early Oct and play golf on Friday. Good chance at a W also.
MICHIGAN ST--see above, but maybe not a road win.
PITTSBURGH-- Pamani Bros sandwich before the game, some good Steel City brew Pubs on Friday night and Steelers game on Sunday, and we may sneak out with a W
BOSTON COLLEGE or FLORIDA STATE--these dont excite me too much as far a road trip but a good series nontheless....FSU may or may not want to come to the Jewel.

The shittier our OOC schedule, the better. Load it up with Sun Belt teams (or worse) and a rotation of Alcorn/JSU/USM and call it a schedule.

If we ever get to the point where we consistently win 9+ games a year and BCS bowl eligibility is within reach (BIG if), then we try to get a name program home and home. Until then, we should be scheduling embarrassingly easy OOC games. Bowl eligible teams are going to sell more season tickets than a routine 5-7 team playing quality OOC opponents.

1. Tulane- Because it's a likely win- (Thanks Jackie! for 03, and Thanks for the paycheck Croom!). I think Ole Miss is doing this right- whether it's their doing or TV's- by playing them at 8 PM at night. Easy drive for most of our fans, playing at 8 PM would give us plenty of time to hang out in NOLA, and hopefully the Saints would be in town for a game on Sunday. And Tulane wins because we would be their biggest crowd all year.

2. Army- We could definately do a home and home with them. Hang out in NYC on Friday, then drive up or ride a train to West Point, which has a lot of college football history associated with it. I've also heard that it's absolutely beautiful up there. Also, a good chance to catch the Jets or Giants in town, or if it's in Sept.- the Yankees or Mets.

3. Missouri- I think they would do a home and home with us. Fri- Hang out in St. Louis and hopefully watch the Cardinals, Sat- MSU football at the Zou, Sun.- Back to St. Louis. Also, Mizzou is an easy drive from St. Louis- I think 80 miles away.

4. Texas A&M- My interest was piqued when it looked like they were about to join the SEC. There are some similarities between the two of us, and they're not all that far from Houston. Definately would be a cool place to watch a game.

5. San Diego State- Very cool city, and they have some football history associated with their program- Sid Gillman and Don Coryell once coached the Aztecs.

And thanks to Greg Byrne, that's what we've got every year through at least 2016. We won't be playing any of those teams you mentioned, or any other BCS teams, until at least then.

I would guess we have MVSU or another game with JSU or Alcorn maybe??
Maybe since Byrne is now at Arizona we should throw that one out there as a possible ??

Basically, it's the schedules some of our fans have been bitching about Mississippi playing. I've never bitched about their easy schedule. It's just smart scheduling and I'm glad we're finally catching on.</p>

'91 Jackie beat them in Starkville. '92 Jackie beat them in Austin. The line to hate Jackie starts in Austin, passes through Oxford and wraps it's way up to Happy Valley.</p>

I want a Tommy Tuberville Ole Miss schedule. 4 schools you got to find on a map that get you wins and then at the end of the year when you go bowling, nobody remembers you beat a team with a retarded kid at QB and a pregnant girl playing split end. </p>

I think we've proven that we can get high profile teams to come to Starkville. West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Oregon, BYU, Oklahoma State, and Texas come to mind. Out of that group, we only managed to beat Oklahoma State and Texas and should have beaten BYU. Oregon and WVU were both ugly losses and GATech was a decent game. I believe every one of these teams except Oklahoma State was in the Top 10 or close to itwhen they came to Starkville.

Meanwhile, I think there have been about 3 non-conference BCS teams show up in Oxford in the last 50 years, and I don't think that is an exaggeration. Wake Forest, Texas Tech, and Missouri - 3 losses.

Bottom line is these games don't usually work out all that well for either of our programs even though they are fun to talk and dreamabout.I look forward to a day in the near future when our schedule isn't ranked in the Top 5 toughest in the country. </span>

The following weekend we took down UF, and I'm sitting in the same seat, like WTF?

Maine needs a major 50+ smackdown from us. Payback.

The Big 12 changes are going to add a 9th conference game to Texas's schedule. They're going to have to either drop or postpone a non-conference game. I have no idea if the UM game would or wouldn't be one they would drop or postpone. And really, it would probably be better for you if they do buy you out. That would get you some cash and take away a probable loss from your schedule.</p>

The 9th game hasn't been approved yet, nor has Texas communicated anything to Ole Miss about a cancellation. It's no more in doubt than any other game X years from now, in case meteors hit the Earth.

current plans are for the Big 12 to play 9 conference games. And I never said that Texas had ever approached Mississippi with the possibility of cancelling that series. I just said that they will have to drop a non-conference game unless the Big 12's plans change. Personally, I hope you do play. It'll just give you an extra loss each year.

A year ago the "plans" were that the Big 12 would still have 12 teams right now. Things change instantly in this environment.

Until even the first iota of reality comes into play regarding a 9 game conference sked, this thing is just sheer speculation. The series isn't in danger at all.

You're just being internet smart.

One of the purposes of Internet sports message boards is speculation. If we didn't speculate, there'd be very little traffic. I didn't say the series would be cancelled or predict it would be. But it is a legitimate possibility. Somebody's going to drop off of Texas's non-conference schedules those years.

I wouldn't mind keeping that on the schedule for another round (caveat that we win of course). I also really enjoyed the trip to Atlanta, if we can't get there for the championship game then scheduling Tech isn't so bad.

Others that I'd like to see:
UNC or Clemson (great east coast trip)
BC or Army (fun Boston or NYC trip)
UNLV(I shouldn't have to explain thisone)
UCLA/USC (LA sounds like an awesome weekend and with the hammer coming down on USC maybe we could make it a game)

I've been happy with our past schedule, possibly b/c I prefer to see us play exciting teams rather than directional state college. Exposure playing teams with tradition is much better for recruits to see than directional state school games (of course we need to be competitive with those good teams and possibly win some to perk some ears).

....they have a long history of charging more than $50 a ticket for the Ole Miss game in Memphis, and I have no doubt they'll do the same with us, meanwhile the rest of their tickets are in the $15-$20 range. We'll fill up half their stadium, and they'll send cops into our section with boxes to collect cowbells, just like they did in 2002. The last time we played up there, they treated us like absolute ****, and I'd be fine if we never played them again.
