Hearing we are talking with Texas Tech about a future series/game. My guess would be 2018/2019 home and home.

Lubbock is a dump. They do have some trashy women, so they have that going for them.

Maybe we can get a tour of the Craig James Building on campus. Whatever happened to that douche anyway?

He left ESPN to run for US Senate in Texas. He took like 6th in the GOP primary- he came off as an even dumber Rick Perry. He was not rehired.

They may have sold their bodies for profit, but they don't deserve what he did to them.

Who the 17 do you people bitching think we are. Texas Tech is a competitive matchup that is the same tier for us. Arizona, NC State, and (possibly) T Tech will be great games. I love starkville, but noone from anywhere wants to come here if they can help it. Stricklin is doing a good job with this

When building

a competitive SEC football program, Dan probable puts about as much weight into the attractiveness of the local town of the opponent as he does the color of the stadium.

Lubbock's not a bad city...

I spent a weekend there once visiting friends. There are a few good places to eat. To borrow a phrase from old Evans Hall t-shirts that were circulating when I was a student at MSU, Lubbock's not the end of civilization but you can see it from there.

Texas Tech is a good matchup BUT Lubbock is still an unattractive destination.

Texas Tech is not a good matchup to me. Too up and down.

Not a terrible matchup and I can understand us ending up with a home and home with them, but not high on the list of who I'd like to see us play.

This is a GREAT idea!

Lubbock is only a couple of hours down the road from my house. I don't care if Lubbock isn't the cultural center of the universe, then again neither is Mobile....

Yep. I had a very nice steak dinner at Triple J Chophouse. There's a very good hole in the wall barbecue place that made Texas Monthly's list of top 50 barbecue places called Tom & Bingo's. Abuelo's is a chain but serves outstanding Tex-Mex, much better than I've had at many Mississippi places. If you like seeing cool architecture there's the Robert Bruno House at Ransom Canyon and there's the Buddy Holly Center too. Oh yeah, it's more than likely you'll see jackrabbits on the Texas Tech campus. There are lots of them.

So who would you like to see us realistically play?

Off the top of my head, Kansas, Iowa or Iowa St, NC St., W. Va (I am assuming they won't be able to recapture the lightning in a bottle), Va. Tech., UNC, Michigan, Washington, Cal St.

Not sure how many of those are realistic (and not even positive they're all still in a major conference after realignment), but I feel like Texas Tech is not particularly well respected and have a coaching tree they can go to that should keep them relevant for the next few years and could potentially make them good. I'd rather go with somebody consistently bad or somebody whose name recognition outpaces the likely quality of their team going forward.

I understand we are not a desirable game as nobody wants to lose to somebody that has basically been the 5th best team in a 6 team division over the past 25 to 30 years, so I don't think somebody had to screw up for us to end up playing Tech. It's just well down the list of teams I'd want to play.

Just look at it from the eyes of a TT fan. Say this slowly... Starkville Mississippi.

I think this is a great match up and thank goodness our AD is less worried about your vacation plans than he is the direction of our football program.

Exactly

I love Starkville. Ole Miss fans love Oxford. However, a travel destination ... it is not.

The same thing happened when we played LA Tech. LA Tech is a CUSA school with a small stadium and fan support, but Ruston is very similar to Starkville.

I find it hilarious when MSU fans complain about traveling to

a so-called unattractive location for a game such as Lubbock or Ruston. It's like Starkville is a cultural mecca and we are debasing ourselves going to a place that is so beneath us. I bet you Texas Tech fans are looking at this matchup and complaining about having to travel to Starkville Miss., because it's a "dump" and "there's nothing there." I like Starkville, but I also know that State fans have no room to complain about traveling to small, out of the way places, because the university sits right in the middle of one.

Hey wait a minute. Isn't there a Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock? If so be careful with that "Lubbock isn't the cultural Center of the Universe".

What does that have to do with anything? Just because we are from Mississippi - we can't want to go to Europe on vacation? That makes no sense.

We just scheduled NC state. Va. Tech., UNC, Michigan, Washington, Cal St.(assume u meant Cal?) are not realistic. Kansas is a bottom feeder. West Virgina is very MEH (isn't there a sixpackremember thread about how terrible WV was attending?) I guess Iowa would be equivalent to T Tech

I think what he means is that we shouldn't high horse ourselves about travelling to Lubbock when they have an equal complaint*

Home and home is the reported deal. We both are eating a **** sandwich when it comes to location. The posts on this thread act like the 7 trips to Vegas are better. TT isn't getting a good deal either if location is the concern.

I don't care if we play a competitive team located in the middle of nowhere as long as they are not regularly in the damn top 10 like our SEC west foes.

I thought people wanted us to play competitive match ups that don't kill our bowl chances. Mission accomplished. I know it isn't an either or situation, but this is a lot better than an OK State match up. This doesn't make Stricklin a dubmass.

Ummm, that sounds good. I'll have some of that please. I'm sure W. Va. would be terrible for an away game, I was looking at it more from the perspective of scheduling a team where you get more credit for beating them than you probably deserve.

I think Arizona, NC. St., and Tech are pretty good overall. Those are the type teams we should be playing, I just think Tech doesn't get as much respect being behind A&M and UT, and even TCU for that matter, so I expect them to be underrated typically.

Lubbock is the worst fbs town in the country

You're telling me there's an oasis in the desert where my alma mater can win a power conference game that has trashy women, Shiner beer, and probably a bunch of Eagles music being played at bars?

Sign me up.

Let's play UNLV! There is a weekend destination. Easy flights, plenty of entertainment. Who cares what conference they are in.

Basically like driving to Omaha...

so probably not gonna make that unless I can afford a plane ticket. We'll see. Just gotta swallow this one. Need to find a home/home before schedules fill up. Hopefully some stud linebacker of ours is on TV after the game telling all the fans at home "y'all shoulda came."

We need to schedule Colorado/Colorado State or Washington/Washington State. Then State fans could visit places where things are legal and learn how not to really give a ****.
