The strike would need to be resolved by Tuesday so the team could be back on the field by Wednesday to play, unless the Flyers would get permission to play on Saturday from opposing team then they could back it up a day

Teams are back at practice today, but still cannot compete in games until strike ends.

Don't think that would be much of a contest.even if that means GW having to face ESL in Round 1
Don't think that would be much of a contest.
I'll tell you one thing if it were to happen and GW over looks ESL glenbard will get stomped!!!!Don't think that would be much of a contest.
I was think more along the lines of how competitive would ESL be without the last 2-3 weeks of practice/film study/conditioning/etc. Are the kids in football shape to go play a physical team like GW? Then get to take a bus 6 hours and play on a grass field against a team that wants to wear you down, and is arguably the best in the state. It would be a significantly more difficult contest than the currently project Hersey (not trying to trash Hersey) who has beaten teams with a combined record of 6-22 and lost to three teams by a combined 91-27 with those three teams being of a similar quality to GW (Barr, Conant, HE). The MSE Conf is not exactly producing battle tested monsters.
ESL beat a very good Simeon team currently ranked 7 in 7A by AP. ESL would also be missing two weeks of bumps and bruises that GW picked up playing HC and OPRF.
ESL might also have a very large chip on their shoulder. The losses ESL experienced had been questioned due to an ungodly number of flags thrown. When teams play at GW, they tend to get few flags thrown. To be honest, a visiting team at GW hasn't had 5 accepted penalties in two years. So eliminate possible suspect (no I don't want to go back to the video issue) flags and and strike and ESL could be a 7-2 (Edwardsville loss) or possibly 8-1 team with only loss being to MCHS.
Sorry Hersey, but I would rather have you than ESL in the 1st round.
If this is true, this is truly a shame. I feel very sorry for the seniors and the rest of the team.Politics rears its ugly head in the sports world again. Crete Monee Warrior nation feels for Flyers football team and fans. The union and school board are meeting this afternoon after a long pause in negotiations. There are no reports of the union scheduling a vote or even receiving a new offer that the union leadership can review. It would take a few days to schedule and conduct a vote, which puts them beyond this week. If they aren't voting by tomorrow, it's over.
Wow!The ESL strike continues, with both sides walking away Thursday from the negotiating table after just 30 minutes. No classes in ESL today, and their opponent this week, Collinsville, is refusing to postpone the game to Sunday evening, just in case. I'm going out on a limb here and saying ESL will not be participating in week 10.

I certainly hope they understand the consequences of a strike. What type of backlash are the teachers going to get from parents and the media when they do finally settle this strike.I would hate to be them when they do come back to work.
IHSA has already given the Flyers a 1-0 lost to Collinsville.
I sure hope so becuase you also have to remember most of those kids playing football is their way out of the neighborhood and that team is the pride of that community. My guy felling is that nobody is going to care what strikes are all about, just saying.I certainly hope they understand the consequences of a strike.
Those teachers don't give a dame about the kids. Any thing of value that goes into the school is stolen, they can't be trusted to oversee their own district and all they care about is posturing.
Disgusting humans.
ESL has the 23rd highest operating expense per student in Illinois. The $13197.64 per student (k-12) is more than Belleville pays ($11574.39 for high school, $10,284.29 for elementary), yet their performance is horrendous.
And those teachers want more money? Why - so they can fail more spectacularly?
No worries boys. GW isn't looking past Proviso West,
The 1981 season was the only time in which the Panthers ever beat GW.
