So he is dismissed from the team. Can he still attend Iowa University without being involved with the team and still have his 3 remaining years if he would return to wrestling next year?

First off, “Iowa University”? Seriously?

Anyway the answer is no. He already redshirted and his click is ticking.

This account doesn’t know crap. That said, I’m not saying they are wrong.

Thanks Spooner. I was just asking because given AJ was dismissed and then returned to college with all his eligibility which ultimately could have included OSU if they were to have accepted him. What would the difference be with Gabe?

Ferrari had redshirts to use (normal and Olympic).

I do wonder if Gabe could get a medical year for mental health issues. Given the reported hospitalization, I would think he'd have the required medical backing.

From the outside in, it seems like he could use some time away from the pressures of competition. Sit out this year, apply for the medical, and come back next year ready to go.

He didn’t return with all his eligibility. He burned through allotted redshirts and a Covid year.

I probably just missed it but this is the first I’m reading about a hospitalization.

It was the reason he missed the soldier salute final against angelo.

Mental Health is just as real as physical. With the recent flexibility the NCAA has shown, I would have to believe getting a medical redshirt should not be a problem. Plus, it would be a horrible look if it was turned down with all of the emphasis on trying to destigmatize the area.

This is pretty tough to read but it rings familiar as I’ve been around a close friend and also a family member who were in the hole. I even hit the skids for awhile about 15 years ago. Man, it can feel really bleak some times. First thing I thought was this: I’m glad he made it to the hospital. There’s a way through it but everyone is different so I hope he finds his way.

He will be a Hawkeye for his entire collegiate career and never once intended on going anywhere. The staff should be commended and so should Gabe when he sees this through.
Absolutely love hearing this!
If I remember right, the interview he did where he touched on the hospitalization, he praised TnT for being there for him and being the ones to force him to get help. Could tell the love he had/has for them and the program. Hopefully this was the kick in the *** he needed and he comes back hungry and extremely motivated!

We are all dealing with something.

He certainly does not owe any of us an explanation, but it is nice to hear that his mindset has turned around. I will be pulling for him.

Not to pee on anyone’s parade but that post is from April. Clearly things haven’t been hunky dory since then.

Anyway, here’s to his continued good mental and physical health.

How is he still practicing with the team if his locker was cleaned out and he was dismissed??
I didn’t know you need a locker to practice. That’s so weird because I often carry my workout clothes in a bag. I am certain he has been practicing with the team, how certain are you that his locker was cleaned out? Go sharp shoot a different post.

To be fair, I read or heard that his locker had been cleaned out as well. From the beginning of this I was hopeful that "cooler" heads would prevail and things would work out, hopefully that's what's actually happened. A lot of times, we change our minds or gain perspective on things after 24-48 hours. Best of luck to Gabe either way, in the end "itsjustwrestling".

AJ wasn't dismissed from the team. he was never a student at Iowa.
