He let himself slip and got up to 211 pounds. Has nothing to do with Iowa’s training staff.

It’s August 2 and it’s bad weight.

Arnold isn't going 74 if Kennedy isn't going 65 if Caliendo isn't going 57. And I've heard nothing that that's a given. Gabe may just be on the outside looking in again.

Someone fairly good is going to sit. It’s called depth.

Nice lineup if wrestlers are physically good there. I would say Ayala finalist, possible champ. I haven't looked but who beats Cali, somebody from that school out east probably. Wasn't that Williams guy going 49?

Man really out on a limb with your Ayala prediction.

And tomorrow is August 3rd and his weight is down but he WAS up to 211#. Go sharp shoot another post to pretend you know what you’re talking about.

And, 33 is much more stacked this year with the addition of Blaze and Davino — all in the Big Ten so loses will affect seeds.

Worked for Nebraska last year. Was surprised Pinto made 174, thought he was a jacked 184 before that. Thought Taylor looked good sized at 165, but made the cut quite successfully.

Awful. If you think it’s unrealistic for him to get to 174 you’re either ignorant or trying too hard.

Iowa wrestlers are consistently challenged to either cut or gain weight effectively. Been going on for years. At Iowa there are “tweeners” while at other schools there are guys who target a weight and have a training program to get there.

So is Caliendo going 157 now that Gabe is back?
Why would he drop? Avoid one PSU guy he can’t beat to wrestle another he likely can’t beat? And I am all for GA winning in life and sticking with Iowa, but he hasn’t shown anything to make me think he can be a high AA wrestler. He has no offense. Keep him on the team, but find someone better to help us win.

Where did I say he wouldn’t get down to 74? I fully expect him to get to 74 but it doesn’t mean he didn’t weight 211 at one point this summer.

If he can get down to 174 isn’t whatever he weighed this summer kind of irrelevant?

Iowa possible bonus at 65 and 74. Favs at 33 and 84 as well.

ISU heavy fav at 97. Fav at hwt and 57. Giving ISU the edge at 141, for now. My gut says Bailey's going to be really good at 141(top 5), but am ok with him needing to prove it before rising in the rankings.

25 and 49 close enough that I am calling them toss-ups.
That heavy matchup should be a good one if we get a healthy BK. Both are very athletic. If BK has put on a little weight I might favor him with his length advantage. I do not think we saw BK at his best last year.

Dropping the weight and being effective are two different stories.

And as others have mentioned, no guarantees that hes in the lineup besides being a spot fill-in. And there's the other issues.

This saga is nowhere near over.

Actually it’s not. And, if you can’t figure out that why he got up to 211 plays into it and the amount of time it takes to get back down and being off a clean lifestyle while competing at this level then I can’t help you there

It’s pretty well documented that Gabe’s had some struggles recently. Continuing to bring up that he was allegedly 211 a month or two ago has no relevance to anything. He’s either going to overcome his struggles or he’s not, harping about what he weighed doesn’t change anything and if you can’t figure that out I can’t help you with that.

Anyone want to quarrel with this finding? Rebuttals, contradictions, refutations?
He had a great finish last year in Bigs and Nattys so one could see that as his best. Between still pretty new in the room and Football his first year, I think he will get better and we have not really seen his best yet. Like most have said, I think his ceiling may be dependent on his weight

Good looking dual...two very evenly matched lineups.

Considering it's already August and he hasn't announced a transfer or enrolled elsewhere, staying at Iowa certainly seems the most plausible outcome. Can't remember if he ever entered the portal, but most guys that do don't wait another six weeks to pick a landing spot especially with school around the corner. Let's hope he ironed things out and is a Hawkeye for life.

Going to be a good battle for 74. I think PK secures it at Soldier Salute.

I really wonder how much Elam has left in the tank. He’s had injuries in the past (meniscus and labrum). The labrum took a lot longer to recover than it should have as well. I think he’s still going to be a quality wrestler, but I don’t see any way he can perform at the same level he did earlier in his career.

I think Elam having the year off last year is a positive. Teemer had a year off prior to the year he made the finals...allows the body to heal up a bit.

Do they bump Ferrari up to wrestle Elam and slide Gabe in at 84 for this dual.

Very reasonable to have concerns about 6th/7th year transfers, especially those with previous injuries. Worth the risk if a team doesn't have the weight covered in house.

Elam has top 5 talent(obviously), but I'm not penciling in much for NCAA points from him until I see what he looks like in late Feb.

Good, I hope the best for the kid. He's clearly gone through some personal struggles and still has the drive to improve on and off the mat. Sometimes a young man needs a small wakeup call to reach his potential. Gabe's potential is very high, and him reaching it would be a nice story for the wrestling community to rally around.
