I have known Coach Galante for 30 years and proud to say he is one of my very best friends. Prouder to say that I am one of his. There is a lot of discussion about coaching on here and who is a good coach and some who we feel just are not good enough. Good bad or indifferent I could listen to comments on Coach Galante and whether you thought he was a good coach or not. I have been a coach for almost 30 years had a son play high school football and graduate a year ago. I think I have come to truly realize the value of truly outstanding men that have chosen the profession of educator and football coach. I am no educator and just have been very fortunate to have a career that has allowed me to coach for so long. I have never met a man that works as hard or cares as much about his program and players as much as Dan does. I truly admire and respect him for that and if you know him, you knew he would fight for his players and program like a cornered badger. My point isn't to start a discussion about best coach or whether I expect all of you to feel about Dan the way I do. You all have that guy you feel this way about. I think there are fewer and fewer every year. We should take the time to call them or drop them a note and thank them for the passion with which they pursued their endeavors.
The game is under attack from many different places and anytime we lose a man in the profession like Coach Galante, I feel the game has taken a step back. I sit and read a lot of discussion and sometimes hyperbole on the game that we all love. We argue over recruiting, private vs public etc, etc.. Rivalries are awesome and I don't want cats sleeping with dogs, let us not forget that we all love this game and make sure that if you have a Coach Dan Galante in your life, maybe just a simple thank you for making the game better.
I hope to see Dan coach again and I would love to coach with him, but if not...Danny you have done one helluva a job and I am a better man for having shared a love of the greatest game on earth with you.
