Good days work from those guys with the weather as nasty as it is. My wool is becoming thicker watching this team, which is clearly against my better judgment.

pitching just let us down that inning and NIU started crushing the ball through the gaps.

but I thought he left Reed in too long in that game. Everyone makes a mistake every now and then, though.

we've got to get better outings from Ricky Bowen. I don't why his control is off, but he needs to settle down. 3.1 innings from your ace is worriesome.

Especially since our bullpen depth is dreadful.

Routt has looked pretty good, but he's a Fr. He'll get a test next week against Hawaii. I wouldn't be surprised if he does well, though.

We need to Busby to figure it out to- and soon.

But I will tell you what I like about this team- they can create runs. We don't have all the talent in the world, but you better believe that we are going to maximize what we have.

I completely agree. I also wonder if and when we will have someone settle into the Sunday starter role or if our weekend rotatioin will settle in at all. Will it be Devin Jones, Forrest Moore, or will they let Crosswhite take a chance with it or will they leave him in the pen. Routt seems to be a very good talent. Overall we are a fun team to watch and we very well could come crashing down to earth once the SEC schedule starts but I am for the moment excited about this season and like everyone else the future of our program.

all three are a possibility, but I would have to believe that Forrest Moore will find his way in the weekend rotation if he keeps pitching the way he has been.

If it were me, I would go with Bowen on Fri., Moore on Sat., and Routt on Sun. Routt is a true Fr., and I would want to get him some more favorable pitching match-ups just because he is so young. On the other hand, I kind of like the contrast in style that Routt could bring between Bowen and Moore. You would go from a guy throwing in the low 90's to more of a control guy with a funky delilvery who is LH, and then follow that up with a guy with a great fastball and a hard curveball in Moore. I think we're going to need Crosswhite and Jones coming out of the bullpen. And who knows? Houston and Hollinghead have stepped up this year so far, and we are going to need someone for middle relief, especially if Busby can't figure it out. Tyler Whitney is probably going to be in the mix for relief some, but I suspent that he is going to be our midweek guy, unless Cohen gets creative (I would say that is distinct possibility) and decides to use either Crosswhite and/or Moore midweek and then bring them out of the bullpen on Sat. or Sun. for an inning or two.

I guess it just depends on how mature Routt is.
