Following up on my question this morning regarding the Athletic Director position — In the AD post and throughout the years I've often seen references to enhancing the game day and overall fan experience. In your view, what does an improved game day experience look like?

I don't think it's one large thing that needs addressing, but rather just a bunch of small things that could be tweaked to would add up for the whole overall experience.

-The Jumbotrons distract too much of the experience. Dial down the constant atmosphere sucking Ads and let the band perform more. I also hate seeing large ole miss donor Richard Schwartz wearing a MSU polo amongst our Ads. Surely some non-supporter of our arch rival can take his place.
-I love the grab and go concessions, but they need to drop the "tip amount" from the credit card machines. It's a self serve store, I shouldn't be asked for gratuity.
-Fix the damned sound system already. It's been over a decade since we expanded and it still sucks.

I’ve never noticed the credit card machines

The tipping thing won't go away because a lot of the concessions are run by volunteers (churches) as a fund raiser for their cause. Not sure how the volunteers/charities make money, but I bet it's highly dependent on tips. But I agree with your premise.

I would start by trying to cull about 50% of the individual things out of pregame. They've added and added and added stuff for about 25 years but never really taken anything out, and some of it can go. What's left should be able to breathe a little. We don't need to hear MMMMMMMadelon, we can put the color guard back on the field and skip Grand Ol Flag, DPR can go away....there's just so much that's dated and can go.

Winning.

I will say there are a few things they can do to help without winning.

Getting in the stadium should be a little easier.
Good music selection.

I have no idea why we still do the DPR. It was fun for a minute when Mullen tried to bring it back but it has just looked like our team going through the motions and doing it because someone told them they had to for at least a decade.

1. Winning
2. Stop playing those stupid ads during the football games, absolute crowd killer.
3. Promote color outs, stripe outs more. Even on our one white out a year, not everyone is wearing white because not everyone is informed.
4. Replace the sound system for football and basketball. Can’t ever understand anything over the speakers.

The very first thing should be wifi and/or robust cell service. Younger folks aren't as into the game as much as older fans and spend a lot of time on their phones; therefore, if we want to attract/keep the next generation, we need to give them wifi. Even older fans like to check in on other games on their phones.

Make on field presentations as short as possible. When they introduce a veteran, just give his/her name and the briefest of details, put the rest on the screen. After the first few words , you can't understand the rest of what is said.

I know their cause doesn’t make the concession prices but people would be more apt to tip if beers didn’t cost the price of our left tackle.

No. 1 by playing Word Up when the kickoffreceiving team is getting set for opening kick.
No. 2 Unchained should be blaring when the team runs out of the tunnel
No. 3 Allow free parking everywhere on campus, right up to the gates of the stadium.
No. 4 Jumbotron for live action and replays only. And the chevron cars race and the kiss cam. Kill all the other crap that no one can hear anyway.
No. 5 No more rap music. FMB should be the only music playing during timeouts/stoppages of play.
No. 6 cushioned chairbacks in every seat leaving room for folks to stretch out.

I know this is not the solution because most people are not like me. I go to a football game to watch football. I go to a baseball game to watch baseball. I go to a basketball game to watch basketball.

I know there aren't enough of us to support the necessary income for the current situation. All that other 🐂💩 interferes with that. Make every fan pass a basic test on the sport they attend to be able to buy a ticket. Don't even try to attract people that don't want to watch the game and talk about the game.

Win.

If there was any hope of winning a sec game this year, with that schedule, State would set some attendance records.

Same here. I think the solution to a lot of problems would be a reduction in the number and length of tv timeouts. That’s biting the hand that feeds the machine, but as I have said before keep the action going and do a 50/50 split screen for tv with commercials or even a 25/75 split favoring commercials.

I have pretty direct knowledge of this situation due to my line of work. I just want to point out that if you want wifi, that's a conversation you can have with the school, but the cell service part is between you and your carrier. The schools can want whatever on that angle but they can't make the wireless companies spend the millions and millions of dollars it takes to build and keep a stadium system up to date. Without connecting dots, of the four main wireless companies in MS (CSpire, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile), one has its own system in DWS, a second has a much more complex system that they share with a third carrier, and the fourth has nothing. Those systems are very expensive and complex and require a lot of equipment space that doesn't necessarily always exist, and they lose money. A lot of money. They're not even close to profitable, and they're only used seven days a year.

Not saying anybody's wrong to want better cell service.....I get it, I'm there too, but it's dependent on who your carrier is, and frankly it's also dependent on where you sit. Just wanted to add some perspective.

Well, I've mentioned before about attending a Bama/Arkansas game during the Saban era. It was a cross between a rock/rap concert, laser light shows and football game. I didn't have a dog in the hunt that day but I did not like the game day experience with music blasting and LED light shows strobing every break and a little bit of football between long tv timeouts.....get off my lawn****

Why would the athletic dept go so far as to say just about EVERY SEASON, that they are upgrading the cell service at DWS on game day? We hear it EVERY year.

But those disco lights that most of you have been grinding about for the last couple seasons are supposed to be the best thing since canned beer and loaf bread, aren't they? People are going to flock the stadium just to see those, aren't they? That's all we heard after the last game we played at SC was how great the light show was, what a waste of money. Yall want to shut down baseball because its "a non revenue producing club sport" but you want to spend money on crap like disco flashing lights...................

I want to stay in the SEC. The best way to find yourself on the outside looking in is to neglect football by not keeping up with the rest of league in football NIL, facilities, and amenities. If that means other sports get neglected, so be it.

Now if you want to be baseball school or want to be an all-sports school, get ready to learn Sun Belt, buddy.

Those lights won't win one game. Those lights won't attract 1 athlete to sign (if we sign an athlete because we have lights, Lord help us) Those lights won't attract any corporate sponsors. The money spent on those lights would be MUCH better spent on NIL payments rather than having them flashing when we have an occasional down time when we aren't giving somebody a cowbell at the 20 yd line for a reason we can't understand because the sound system sucks or when we've got the Chevron race going on the scoreboard. How many night time games have we had the last few seasons when they could have been used anyway?

The 17ing baseball stadium has them. But it’s ok for football to tote that 17ing bill right? We are the only SEC stadium with an open end zone. We are the only SEC program without a football only Indoor facility. We have a trailer park in the end zone. Our speakers sound like a McDonald’s drive through. Meanwhile, the club sport that loses money hand over fist has the best amenities in the country thanks to football. There are literally Mississippi High School stadiums with LED lights. Us not having them is ridiculous.

Check the language, do they say that THEY are upgrading it or are they saying it IS being upgraded? Active vs passive voice is important.

I like all these except 3. I would quit doing the damn color outs until we are competitive again, if ever. Nobody wants to have to worry about wearing the right color when at this point, they're lucky I'm still going to games. 75% of the crowd wearing the same color doesn't do anything for me. PLUS, every team has done it for years, it's tired and played out. It doesn't impress anyone anymore. I'd rather see us come up with creative things that every other single team in America doesn't do. It sort of loses luster at some point. Let's be unique and NOT do color outs.

I try and be a sport about it and wear my "assigned" color but certainly good with dropping it. Speaking of dropping things, put me down for maroon/white. It really did have some magic to it 18/19/21 but I swear we are oh fer the last 4 years. Honestly can't remember a time it's "worked". Baseball or basketball.

That cheer badly needs a closing move. When it started (or the first time I heard it), back in the early 80's, the cheer was "Maroon... White..." then both sides together would yell "Bulldog Blitz" because that was like the theme of the season or something. There was even a poster board we all had with a maroon side and a white side. Pretty good for back then. I found one:

bulldog blitz.jpg

Now it's maroon/white/maroon/white/maroon/nothing/fizzles out into infinity. There is no ending. I'm not advocating a return of the Bulldog Blitz, unless we can also bring back Johnnie Cooks, Glen Collins and Billy Jackson. But we should have something there to cap it off.

Good point.

on another note, and I’m just curious, do you have a suggestion on how to make crowd louder? I’m talking specifically for basketball and football bc those stadiums can be dead quiet even if it is a big game.
