How about just last year

Shough is/was a better QB than Brian… it’s true
Nobody old enough to have watched Brian play (and watching games with your dad doesnt count, Sport) would have that take.
Shough was a tier 2 QB. Great skills, not a Tier 1 QB.

Tier 1: (arguably the best QB in the nation)
Redman
Brian Brohm
Teddy
Lamar

Tier 2: (Best QB in the conference)
Lefors
Ragone
Shough
Jeff

Tier 3: (Solid but Mid)
Malik/Mecale/Malik
Lowe
Neagle
Cantwell
Plummer
Moss
Gruden

** None of us are old enough to judge Unitas as a college QB

Frankly, I dont care if our QB is black, white, latino, jewish, asian or arab. I don’t care if he’s a scrambler or a pocket QB. What I do care about is his ability to lead the offense to move the ball, doesnt turn the ball over with bonehead throws, doesnt get rattled by pressure (both literal pass rush and situational pressure), has a competitive fire, and can lead the offense on a game winning drive with his arm and brain - feet/legs are a bonus, not a primary attribute.

I was on record saying Mendoza was the #1 portal QB, and that Moss’s breakout game against us was an exception. I think Jeff and Brian are exceptional, but nobody is a QB whisperer like Lincoln Riley, and if he can’t make you look good with USC-talent…

We should all expect all of our future opponents to exploit the offensive line. It doesn’t matter who the quarterback is they are going to be under heavy pressure. Hopefully the bye week will help us heal up the running backs.

Tier 3: (Solid but Mid)
Malik/Mecale/Malik
IMO Micale Malik was much better than a solid but mid QB. He could've been the best QB in the conference IF HE HAD A COACH.

I had a lot of sympathy for Malik after Petrino 2.0 completely bailed on the team and he got stuck with Satterfield.

How many times did Satterfield throw Malik under the bus in post-game loss pressers? So many that I lost count.

Watch the 2019 Music City Bowl or the 2021 FSU game Malik looked like the 2nd coming of Lamar in both, beatng those teams with his arm and his legs.

Malik had so much potential, and nobody to coach him into that potential.

I'll always have a soft spot for Malik for sticking with the Cards through 6 years, 2 coaches, Covid and several injuries. He's a Cardinal forever!

FWIW I don't care if our QB is Black, white, green, purple, atheist, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, LGBTQA+, etc.. Give me a QB with at least 2 years of eligibility who makes good decisions.

Somebody posted on X that everybody needs a partner who is as loyal as Brohm to bad QBs. 💯

Yeah, you've got no bias at all...

Malik was a fine runner, and a good leader, but his arm was a joke - which is why the Pats moved him to WR after a week in training camp. Kordell Stewart could chuck the ball 70 yards, but he had no business playing QB - nor does anyone who can't hit a 10-15 yard out-route or hook. Besides that, there's no way on God's green earth that you can mention Mecale/Malik in the same breath as LeFors, Ragone, Jeff or Shough. That's ridiculous. He was a mid QB who was what Satterfield wanted in his system, did a good job of leading the offense, but could not be trusted to throw it 30+ times a game.

RB run the ball. QBs need to be able to throw it primarily. Running ability is a bonus attribute, not a primary one. How many years of eligibility they have is also a non-factor. Welcome to the NIL/Portal age.

Brohm is loyal to his starting QB because good coaches who win consistently aren't wishy-washy. It sets a very bad precedence on a team. People who have led large groups of men understand this about leadership, Monday morning armchair QBs who've never led do not. Do I like Moss? No. I'd prefer, like you, he stuck with Allen, Adams, Bailey and Mims and let them fight it out over the Spring and Fall camps. Moss brings nothing to the table these guys don't have and couldn't develop with enough reps. Moss had a career game against us, but was an exception rather than a pattern. Also, getting benched and passed over by a coach who has coached/developed...what, 4 Heisman QBs at this point? Major red flag.

I didn't say Malik was the best QB in the conference. I think he had the potential to be the best with the right coach. I hope Malik makes it as a NFL WR.

I'm with you on Moss. The 🚩🚩🚩 were flying with him from jump. There were far better QBs available in the portal. I don't know what we're paying Moss but it's way too much. He makes your tier 3 QBs look like super stars. Unless something dramatically charges, add a tier 4 or 5 for Moss and throw Erik Gigawatts in that tier with him.

If Jeff adds another one and done West Coast QB next season, I may pull my hair out. We will not keep or develop our HS QB recruits with a revolving door of one year QB rentals.

I'm not calling any shots, but I'd be confused if Jeff dipped into the portal again for a QB.

Allen has been with Jeff/Brian since Purdue. I'd love to know the story there (and it isn't performance, as some have indicated). I'm guessing there's a personality/maturity aspect to it. I've seen enough sample size from open practices, spring games, and cleanup in blowouts to know his arm/ability isn't the issue. The rumors about his play at practice were started by Clarkson fanboy trolls. His arm is strong, his release is fast and his placement is good. Poor decisions can be corrected with reps. And no, he is not a statue as you've indicated. Go watch the last two spring games. Skip to the 23:20 mark in the '24 Spring Game

Duece has been around for 2 seasons. He also has a cannon, but he's a bit more flat-footed than Allen.

Mims is a mystery, but was recruited by many programs that produce good QBs.

Cherry is a must-keep recruit. He's legit, and comes from a really good program in Chattanooga. But would he be ready to lead the team as a true Frosh?
