Very even game. The one score was a play call that caught the Chilhowie defense off guard. Both defenses are playing good assignment football.

Congrats to Chilhowie on a great season - you were just outmatched before the game even began.

As I stated over two months ago, only one 1A team had the explosive and unpredictable offense that had even a remote shot at Riverheads this season and they were knocked out in severe weather in the region title game.

Even the radio guys that cover Riverheads discussed they were glad that they did not have to face the NHS offense (one of the announcers actually did say he had hoped to see Northumberland play Riverheads - just so he would have something interesting to discuss -lol).

Now having said that, Riverheads would have been the favorite in that possible game as well (but NHS would have given Casto and Company headaches).

Oh well, that game did not come to pass - Will Riverheads win it again next season by 20 plus?

Riverheads is a good candidate to 4-peat. This team was young. Think about that during the offseason.

They are always a candidate to win, but they wouldn't be considered "young" in my mind. They have younger kids who have gained experience though.

But Mcwhorter, Morris, Phillips, Bond, Smith, Shuey, Lee and several of the linemen are all listed as Seniors.

Smiley and Dunlap will be back, as well as other names we have read throughout the season such as Cox.

Congratulations to Riverheads on three in a row. Not sure if any program can slow down what those Guy's in Greenville have built.
Congratulations to Chilhowie as well on a near perfect season. Y'all put Chilhowie back on the radar.

Keep dreaming. Maybe you will get that game in your sleep. And it wont be close.

Hence the word remote shot at winning.

Riverheads has been the favorite for years now. The only time they lost was to Galax who used a star player very wisely.

Again, no one in 1A can beat Riverheads trying to be Riverheads.

Only shot is to spread them out and beat them with the pass and speed. Let Riverheads control the game and time of possession.

I am quite sure Riverheads was more worried about stopping Palmer and the passing game of NHS than stopping one dimensional running team Essex with only Dameron. They even discussed it on the radio.

Next year - the only chance to beat Riverheads will be someone who has the athletes and big play ability to score on that D.

If that can't work than we might as well give Riverheads the title and everyone else just play for their region.

Oh that's right - I have been advocating for that for about three years now already lol.

Stop tugging so hard on Northumberland UVA Cavs. Northumberland would've been drilled worse than Chilhowie or Essex.

I have no problems with others opinions.

Some really need a bit of reading comprehension and critical thinking skills training....

As I have said for years, Riverheads is the heavy favorite.

If you think that trying to be Riverheads will beat Riverheads, feel free.

@uvacavs1, you bring up a good point about trying to out Riverheads the Red team.

I do take exception to anyone associated with RH being worried about Palmer or any other one player. You seem to study quite a bit but have missed Casto’s constant interview points. They do not focus on any one opposing player and play a pretty vanilla D. If you choose to pass you had better block well and hit it more times than not. The teams that have beaten RH in the past 5-6 years are not big play pass happy teams. They can execute that when needed but more often have been run heavy teams that can make positive yards play after play.

With all that said I promise I wanted Northumberland. Seeing film is not the same as live but I personally didn’t see anything to be scared of. Great athlete for sure An I wish him all the success he can gain, but he would not have single handily beaten this team, period.

I think you are spot on here. What I have seen is teams do alot of guessing as to what Riverheads is going to do next. They try to out scheme their offense. You have to play assignment football to beat Riverheads. To do this you have to have the same mentality as Castro. He states constantly we are not fancy, we run the same plays. If you stop us you'll win. The last time Riverheads was beat in a playoff game was against a coach who had the same philosophy and the athletes. In the 2015 Championship game that's what you saw. Galax played assignment football and lights out on D. They would send someone in to sacrifice their selves to blow up the lead blockers and Spurlin took it from there.
On the offensive side he had the same philosophy again as Castro He ran the same play over and over Off tackle right with Harris and said try and stop it. They was getting 5 yards a pop each play. Everyone in the stadium knew what was coming. It takes winning individual battles every play to win against them.

What I saw Saturday was the coach from Chilhowie looked like he couldn't believe that the plays that had worked all season wasn't working against RH. He did not change tactics on O until it was desperation time and too late. Chilhowies D did enough to keep them in the game the first half. Although they got wore down by RH offense because they was on the field so long. RH physicality eventually took its toll and RH broke the game open. If you read or listened to his interviews you can see as to why.
It is going to take someone who has the athletes in the right position to beat RH.

My hats off to Riverheads, I like their style. Their athletes do not trash talk like other teams they act like they have been there before. Very business like. I really liked Castros comment about he didn't know what hastags had to do with football. You can tell he is old school.

Casto is happy if he gets 3 or 4 yds a play where most all coaches will change there play calling if thats all they get. I couldnt tell you how many times I have heard the other teams fans cheering when Riverheads only gets 3 yards including Sat. Then next thing you know its 1st down after 1st down and then the quarter is gone. There defense is good but there offense is probably there best defense.

You exactly right as long as you are getting the 3 or 4 yards stick with it. I watch so many coaches get 4 yards on first down and pass the next 3 then punt and do over and over again.I like what they do, they go in a game and think 4 downs to get the first and if not he believes in his defense. Castro brings more pressure on defense then any team I've seen this year. You may burn him on a pass once or twice but his D is going to put pressure on the qb to make the big mistakes and it works.
