I don't know all the potential variables involved with these events,

but I do know this: If the City of Jackson, MS is involved in any (meaningful) way; It's gonna be a Charlie Foxtrot.

Can you please go into a little more detail about how people like me are the problem with Mississippi. Are you saying this because Mississippi ranked 4th in Murder Rates last year with Jackson leading the way? Or because the city of Madison has the 2nd lowest crime rate in the state? Or is this just because I didn't agree with everything c34 said?

People like you are what's wrong with our State.......

If you haven't noticed, crime is everywhere even in Madison. Lock your car, don't leave anything in clear sight and you will be fine. I live in Jackson, and I am proud to call it home. I have several friends that live near the stadium in Fondern and they seem happy there.

Ask your big donor where we'll park...

...in case you don't live in Jackson, & don't have occasion to drive by the stadium, half of the east side stadium parking lot (side facing the Medical Center) now has fast food joints built on it. For a game in Jackson, good luck with your parking. Ask your big donor what his remedy to that situation is.

I disagree with having a game in Jackson.

I am 10 years removed from going there, but I see games from the students prospective. The football team should play where the students can watch them play. People can bring the fact up that the big money comes from the alum (yes it does I know) but without the students we have no football team. I think they need to keep as many games in Starkville as possible. You want loud cheering? You get that from the students. The team goes to the student section to sing after a home game, they don't go stand infront of the big donors. They go an show the appriciation for the excitement that the student section helps generate.

ok- how many students are going to go to Mobile and Ruston? 1,000-1,500 tops?

Dont you think more students are likely to go to the game in Jackson than go to Ruston?

I agree that yes you would get more students in Jackson than Mobile or Ruston, however I just look at how I was then. I had the money to go to Jackson on a day trip but I couldn't have afforded to buy the tickets to an away game 35-40 bucks when the whole season of student tickets was 21 bucks I think.

you made the same mistake I did.

the games in Jackson will be in lieu of playing AT out of conference foes...

all "home" games will stay in Vegas.

If the numbers make sense, it would be great for MSU

As far as my interest in attending games away from Starkville goes, I'm probably more likely than the average fan to spend money on traveling to see us play. I usually make at least 1 road game per year. That said, the likelihood that I would go to the following locations, assuming work doesn't keep me from attending and I'm not having money problems, is as follows:

Ruston: 0%
Mobile: 0%
Birmingham: 10%
Jackson: 100%

Full disclosure: I live in Memphis. I think most fans that travel to away games and who live in or near MS would have very similar lists of odds.

If the the numbers work and it's financially viable for someone to buy the games out and move them to Jackson, it will do nothing but good for MSU. I can't think of one reason why MSU would better off in those 3 cities versus Jackson.

He said in another thread that parking would be at the colisium with shuttles to the stadium. Yeah, that would work. I remember Jackson running shuttles to the airport for an air show once. You could have walked back faster.

I'm not sure what your complaint is. The game cannot be played in Starkville. Its going to be a home game for USA and La Tech. What is so hard to understand about that?

The more I think about this I think it woul be cheaper to buy out that game and bring it to Starkville. You need to think this one though coach. Be sure and take a look at the stadium area and parking before you do.

Great point,

Oh wait, no it wasn't. First off, for the 1000000 time (in around 10 threads on this) NOBODY.IS.TALKING.ABOUT.MOVING.HOME.GAMES. This is about moving away games. That brings us to your other point. Is it easier for student to drive 90 mins to Jackson or MULTIPLE hours (over twice the distances compared to Jackson) to Ruston, Mobile, Etc.? Nobodh is talking about moving a game from Starkville to Jackson. What is so hard to comprehend about this for people?

We played in Jackson when I was in school. It SUCKED. In fact one of Tuberville's demands was no more games in Jackson.

The point is not that there is no crime in Madison, it's that there is much, much less crime in Madsion. Now if you don't go to an MSU basketball at the coliseum because you're worried about crime, you're probably an idiot. But that doesn't change the fact that Jackson sucks. If leaving something in your car in clear sight is tantamount to asking for your car to be broken into, that's pretty ******. Now if you live in a area with a lot of cool stuff to do, that can be a reasonable trade-off. Unfortunately, Jackson doesn't have a lot of cool stuff and while I like Fondren, it's not all that great. I do go to the Jackson basketball games and would go to a football game there, but let's not pretend that large swaths of Jackson aren't ****** and that if the state gov't was not seated there, it would not have already completely rotted from the inside out.

I said that I would go to the game at Veterans, and have been to games there, and that it's still worse than the coliseum. Not sure where you got that I wouldn't go, but to think that it's a safe place to be at anytime is quite foolish in itself.

For the love of God read the proposal before you reply. If one more ignorant ********* bitches that the game should be in Starkville I'm going to go on a killing spree. And I don't have jack **** to do with this, I just hate ignorant people.

I probably wouldn't go to the game in Jackson but I can't see how it would hurt. Much better for us to play there than middle-of-nowhere-University's home stadium.

As a student from 1979-1983, we only played about 2 games a year in Starkville. The rest of the home games were in Jackson. Loved it. Wouldnt trade it for anything. This talk about not playing an AWAY game in Jackson is really stupid. I'm sorry you folks in Tupelo, Columbus, Greneda, et al. may have to drive further but isnt it better than going to Ruston or Mobile? Dont you think playing this AWAY game in Jackson can help us increase our fan base? Maybe some little kid in Bogue Chitto who likes LSU because its closer to him might get to go and he realizes its cool to like a school in OUR STATE. Come on people, grow a brain! This is a great idea!

Can you imagine the economic impact for Jackson by doing this? Plus, it will allow for more recruits to see the team play. This whole thing has awesome written all over it.

So why would South or La Tech agree to this? Do you not think they are aware of the economic impact and exposure they can get at their home stadium when an SEC team comes rolling in?

thanks for the clarification, Pat... Other than that wacky game at Duke (as a favor to Cut) a couple years ago, and some Neutral Site games, I just couldn't remember Bama doing it and didn't realize it was that common.

yeah, there's a fair number of mid and even larger BCS programs that do the 2-for-1 thing. texas played at wyoming last year or 2 years ago. and it was actually in laramie. oklahoma played @ utep this year. a&m is playing @ la tech (moved to shreveport) this year. i know wisconsin played @ unlv a few years ago. oregon st played @ unlv a few years ago too. cal played @ nevada last year. i know there's more examples from the last 3-4 years, i just can't remember then off the top of my head. but it's a pretty common practice among non-elite powers, and even some elites on occasion.

i am absolutely against giving up a home game to play in jackson. HOWEVER, i am 100% in favor of someone buying out a road game against a non-BCS opponent and moving it to jackson.

You, like many other white flight people, continuously bash Jackson for being like downtown Detroit.
Do you drive a exotic sports car or something? I don't understand why you would not park your car at the stadium.
Yes there is crime in Jackson, but nothing more than you would expect from a city with it's size and demographics.
I have lived in Belhaven for 8.5 years and have not had any incidents, knock on wood.
Crime follows the people, and as the people are moving to Ridgeland and Madison, the crime will follow them.
I know people who have had their homes and automobiles burglarized and they live in nice subdivisions in Madison.
Trust me you don't live in a crime-free bubble in Madison.
