Northwestern (10-3, 1-1 Big Ten) hosts Illinois (9-4, 0-2 Big Ten) at Welsh-Ryan Arena at 8 p.m.

Both teams are coming into this with something to prove. Northwestern is hunting for their first Power Six win since DePaul on December 17, and their first Big Ten win since their victory at Michigan State on December 4. Illinois is still searching for their first conference win, and some stability, they are 5-4 in their last nine.

He lucky the Nicholbomb was late or he’d have ended up in the upper deck

Both teams starting out wildly, Buie is out of control.

NU’s students are just excellent when NU’s team is worth supporting. You can feel their energy through the screen.

Some Buie must've rubbed off on Roper, what a series of awful plays.

Hummel has described both team’s half-court offenses as “a slog” and “ugly”, which is honest and perhaps generous.

If these guys were older and shorter I could swear this was a game at the Y played by a bunch of guys convinced they can shoot from the outside. But can’t

Man, if Beran were willing to take that kind of contact to finish a dunk more often, he’d be dangerous.

Cats playing with energy.
For every dunk like that, he gets 4 stuffed back in his face.

Audige going out of control mode now.
I watched that last jumper before the media timeout back. Seemed on first view like there was an opportunity to drive, but Illinois hedged well and the other option was probably a bailout three from Roper, who had just screened for him.

Slightly out of control but also the best option with an offensively challenged lineup out there.

Maybe Collins read "coaching for Dummies", but someone did a good jump using Boo's minutes the end of the half when he had two fouls

Does NU have the edge in FTA this season?

What a change. 10 attempts for the Cats, none for the Illini.

Good first half.

Someone tell him it's okay to make those 2 foot shots at the rim. But yeah, he's so much better than Verhoeven.
He’ll get better at those. He still rushes and is afraid of being blocked if the dunk is not there. He’s never going to be a crafty finisher. He is who he is. But, man, the kid brings it.
