It’s still early, but yes not a great start. Not too concerned however. High Point started hot and NU started cold it happens. Just hope we pull away going into the 2nd half. This is not a good looking team![]()
Barnhizer and Audige were both ruled out
No longer worried. Hope it’s not monoCollins provides an update on Barnhizer, he was out with the flu, wasn't present to try and prevent spreading it to rest of the team.
Mono is a Northwestern tradition. Be prepared. No longer worried. Hope it’s not mono![]()
High Point? Well done, DadGreer's game was a high point for sure. Damn.
More specifically, I thought that defense was soft and not very physical in the first 8 minutes. Im concerned an average B10 team would've had them down by much more than 9.Getting off to a slow start in the first half - I don't think we will get away with that very often in Big Ten play.
Was worried about how things went in the first half, but so much to be pleased about in the second half:
Nance's confidence and aggressiveness.
Buie playing under control and getting his teammates involved.
Young's great post play.
Greer's poise and clutch senior leadership.
Simmons' potential and hustle - loved seeing him scrambled to get that loose ball on the floor.
Williams' ferociousness on that dunk!
The few negatives:
Getting off to a slow start in the first half - I don't think we will get away with that very often in Big Ten play.
Nicholson: looked a little lost on the defensive side. Appears tentative.
Berry - quiet night for him, but not as big a deal when so many other players had great games.
Beran - sigh...
But overall, feeling very positive about the team.
Great hustle and moves his feet really well on D. I hold Vic Law in very high regard, and Simmons as a frosh reminds me of Law. Athletic, strong defense, works hard on the court, gets to the foul line. Law had more offense his first year than we have seen so far from CS, but it has been only 2 games.Simmons has a very high ceiling. Kid has great hops and an amazing wingspan. He just looks different out there. I don’t think we’ve ever had a player quite like him. It’s going to be fun to watch him grow into his body and develop as a player. Very excited about his future at NU.
I don’t get Beran. Maybe he lacks confidence, but seems like this should be his year to shine (he looks like a Big 10 body now), and so far he’s been marginal at best. Maybe the staff should focus on getting him going against one of these early cup cakes. Was worried about how things went in the first half, but so much to be pleased about in the second half:

High Point is much better than both of those programsAs I'm often the Debbie Downer in here, I will add this feels a lot like a thread after we thrashed Arkansas Pine Bluff and Chicago State last year.
We also won 3 games to start conference play. So?High Point is much better than both of those programs
Did he really say that?We also won 3 games to start conference play. So?
I was seriously concerned with CC’s words that “these guys know they will all play 20 minutes or so a night”. You play your best players more than 20. Unless you have all players of equal quality. Which, for as promising as our frosh are, or Williams, Greer or Beran, they’re not at the level of splitting minutes. They’re at the level or resting Nance/Buie/Young/Berry/Audige.
i hope he meant in non conference play. Because in conference that utopia of perfectly interchangeable players will come to a quick halt once we get punched, hard, in the throat.
Yeah thats the thing with non con you never know. However I’d rather be 2-0 with 2 blowout wins than a lot of the other big ten teams who have either lost or won close games against much inferior competition. As for CCs quote I don’t really know what to make of it tbh.We also won 3 games to start conference play. So?

NU is winning by the margin it should. Doing this without a starter. Team looks improved in every area over last year as they should against this level of competition. No idea how this will translate as the competition improves. I have more optimism than I did before the season that this is a team that can compete night in and out.As I'm often the Debbie Downer in here, I will add this feels a lot like a thread after we thrashed Arkansas Pine Bluff and Chicago State last year.
If he did , it was to keep their hopes high.Did he really say that?
How can he possibly think that?
He has 3 guys who should be playing as many minutes as possible. He has 4 guys who have yet to prove they can compete successfully at the Big Ten level.
I guess I'm assuming that we are trying to win. Thats a reasonable assumption, right?
There's an old adage about successful basketball teams - the players have to know their roles.
"I don't want to hurt Robbie's feelings" is not a formula for success.
