This idiot would rather lose trying to force this team to do it his way, whatever the heck that is, than to win the way they did during the exhibition games. Teams don't regress this much this fast by accident. Cal has purposely destroyed these kids' confidence. It seems that Cal is purposely sabotaging this program before he eventually leaves or gets tossed out on his head.
