I think if anyone had any questions about KW being a legit contender, they answered that question tonight. But still a long ways to go and everyone just has to stay focused and stay healthy.
Lafayette defense was a little shaky all year. Injuries and transfers had me wondering. The kw offense is excellent and really exposed it tonite. Actually, the 61 points is the most scored on Lafayette ever. If you get the stats let me know. The yards must be incredible.
Only stats I heard was Claiborne had 173 yards rushing and 4 tds and Robinson, the qb, had 249 yards rushing. Not sure on the passing yards. Scouts from Michigan, Wake Forest, Michigan and Maryland were supposed to be there tonight and they definitely got a show
Claiborne should be right at 1000 yards on the season and that includes 3 games where he played 2 quarters or less and one game that he missed because of Covid protocols
Against Goochland, Claiborne only played the 2nd half. He and three other 2 way starters including the qb, had to sit out the 1st half, plus another starter on defense was already out with an injury. The KW defense held Goochland to negative yards in the 2nd half, but to Goochland's credit, their defense hung tough and KW also had a few turnovers. I feel like if Claiborne and the others had played the whole game then the outcome would have been very different

Ok, it was defensively bad enough!! Looked like a JV defense out there for Lafayette. With 3 transfers and 5 injuries to starters really showed against a top quality team. I don’t have any solutions.
I'm still trying to figure out if that was two really good offenses or two suspect defenses on the field. I will noted that I saw about 6-7 Lafayette kids on the sideline in civies with game jerseys on. King William's speed is outrageous.
Yep, I started going in 1997 when they joined the bay rivers. That’s when Lafayette was in the peninsula district before my time. I stand corrected!
For Lafayette I can say a suspect defense. The Lb who was all region defensive player of the year last year is out all year from day 1 due to injury, same for the T/E- D/E. Both would Seniors. Another starting LB transferred out to Gloucester, another all region DE transferred to Fl snd private school and our top WR and DB transferred to Phoebus. Starting lineman hurt his shoulder preseason, out all year. Then current injuries to a good LB and for this game top Defensive lineman it was an accident waiting to happen. There were blown coverages snd poor containment before but not as obvious against lesser teams. Not last night. With KW speed the newbies filling in were overwhelmed. Can they regroup? We shall see.
