Interesting notes.

Derunnya Wilson running 2nd team WR behind Morrow.
Damien Robinson listed as 2nd team LT.
Josh Robinson or Nick Griffin listed as 2nd team RB (not Milton).
Chris Jones running 2nd team behind Autry.
Nelson Adams and Jordan Washington listed as 2nd team DTs... This one is confusing.
Taveze Calhoun listed as 1st team corner over Justin Cox.

Discuss.

No Quay nor Nick James? Interesting.

I had heard Taveze Calhoun was the real deal and beating everybody out. Wilson isn't surprising, he's a beast. Robinson/Griffin was expected. The DTs are interesting for sure, and I don't know if that's a good thing. Mullen seems to be dead set on not compromising effort.

James and Evans ought to be ashamed

Looks like we have a couple of Tommy Kelly's on the team. Only difference is that The Kang isn't here to reward shitastic effort.

JRob puzzles me. I think he's the real deal but I'm wondering about our plan for him. He's listed @ 225. I read somewhere that he had lost 25 lbs and was @ 205. I understand that he's faster now. But I really thought that he'd be our battering ram. Last year they had a speedy LDP bulk up for between the tackles. Does the short yardage fall to Griffin now?

Tah-VEZ Calhoun beating out Cox for WK1 doesn't worry me as much as Love beating out Cox.

Why not DA-un-ya Wilson -or- Fred Ross?

In the player interviews, Nelson Adams' name has come up often. Adams and Washington are lighter than Evans and James - don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Definitely a few scratchers in there.. I guess we can just write Evans and James off, if they haven't gotten it together by now and ATLEAST 2nd string.. 17'n ridiculous.. And Jamerson love starting against OK state scares the **** out of me.. My excitement level has dropped after seeing that..

I'm not surprised on Wilson. Dude is legit. He was told a few weeks ago he was going to play after he looked like a man amongst boys in a scrimmage. Dude has huge hands too.

I'm surprised that neither Quay nor James cracked the two deep. I expected one of them. Pleasantly surprised at Adam though. I don't think it's a 'motivational' tactic. They're just not getting it done up to the coaches' expectation.

Not surprised to see Griffin up there. I'll be surprised if Milton is on the roster next year. Be interesting to see if Shump plays. Hate to see him only play special teams, but there is a lot of depth there.

I notice Collins is coaching from the press box. I seem to recall that Wilson was moved from the press box to the field at one point. Did Collins coach from the press box in the bowl? Anything to make of him being there now?

I had a group project with that guy this summer. COOL *** DUDE. But I remember thinking how small he was for a DT. The only two things I can think of is maybe Mullen is going with a smaller lighter lineup against a fast-paced O or maybe he's trying to give James/Evans some motivation.

No surprise with Wilson. We knew some rookie WR's were going to play this year, it was just a matter of who. Why not the 6'6'' guy?

Justin Cox

Does anyone know how his progression has been? He was almost a shoe in to start in the defensive backfield when he signed. This could mean a few things:
1) Not as good as advertised.
2) Our defensive backfield is better than we thought.

I am going with #2. We have been stockpiling db's for the last 3 recruiting cycles. I honestly was mortified thinking of new db's against ok st. but I actually think we will be ok. I may eat my words but the guys we have on our two deep were the top athlete/db in their respective state or juco. I feel really good about the progression of this group and our defense as a whole.

Quay doesn't surprise me at all. The effort I saw him give in mop up action last year was nothing to get excited about

I wouldn't look too much into this move. Some coaches want to be on the sideline to get a feel for the game, players, etc. I honestly think its better for coordinators to be in the box. This shows me he is open to letting the assistants do the chewing and he can get a birds eye view of what's going on. A lot of coordinators coach from the box. I would rather see formations and such myself than have someone telling me. I think it gives the guy in charge a much better vantage point to make quicker decisions about formations and such.

One thing nobody in this thread has mentioned is the possibility of suspensions. Seems like every year we have a handful of guys that have to sit out the 1st game. Wouldn't be surprised if that were the case with out DT depth

I want to see who takes that 3rd WR spot. I'm still not convinced Morrow is our 3rd best WR just from what little we saw last year.

Nothing else too suprising other than DT. I'd have thought at least one of Virges, Evans, or James would have been there. If James is really redshirting that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. We got a lot of depth here.

I wouldn't read much into the CBs because I expect we'll have a steady rotation of 4 against OK St. Calhoun & Love played a ton of snaps last year - I think I heard something like 30% of the total plays. So they are by far the most experienced. Cox should take over one of those starting positions if he lives up to the hype.

Although Arceto Clark would probably disagree with me, I doubt somebody ineligible at this point is really going to be with the team another four years. It's incredibly easy to stay eligible. If he doesn't care enough to do that, I don't expect the light to come on for him in time.

Grindle, Knox and Lawson have been out for a while now. I think Grindle is at PRCC, Knox and Lawson quit football. I think.

Trent Simpson is probably greyshirting, recovering from knee surgery. He's supposed to play baseball too.
