That is so dumb

Playing a whole other game before you finish the game you had started the day before. That could screw up the pitching situation for the last two innings of tonight's game. If Holder is needed to close out tomorrow's regularly scheduled game, someone else might need to finish out the suspended game, with the two best relievers already used. Hopefully Graveman will toss another complete game and this point will be moot.

If Graveman throws another 99 pitch complete game, can we just let him keep going into the other game and close it out? *

Knowing Graveman, he could throw 11 innings tomorrow and still be under 120 pitches.

Why is there a need to resume?

I'm obviously not up to snuff on my NCAA Division I Baseball rules, but why does there need to be a resumption of the game at all? The game was halted during the 7th, correct? Is it only a MLB rule that 5 innings is a full game if shortened by weather?

I have never heard of that. Seriously..what's the reasoning for finishing the first game after the second? And for future reference, who made this decision?

SEC rules state that a game has to go 9 innings to be official, unless it's a regularly scheduled 7-inning game, such as a Sunday doubleheader.

Note the SEC rule that allows the continued game to be completed after regularly scheduled game when TV is involved. insidemsusports.com/2013/04/18/aub…

SEC rule is that if the regularly scheduled game is on TV, the suspended game can begin after the completion of the regularly scheduled TV game. That is to make sure the TV game broadcast starts on time. However, with only 2 innings needing to be played, I don't see why we can't restart the suspended game at 3 p.m., we'll have plenty of time to finish that game and have a nice break before the regularly schedule game starts at 6:30.

This is retarded. If we finish out game one first with a win, it could change the way we strategize for game two particularly late in the game.

So does that mean ESpNU is going to pick up for the completion of tonight's game tomorrow night at like 10?

No idea. I doubt it. I'm sure Kyle Peterson and crew are gone. Here is the SEC rule from Locke's blog:

“If a game is suspended on Friday or Saturday, the game shall be completed from the point of interruption on the following day prior to the regularly scheduled game. In the event that the regularly scheduled game is to be televised, the continued game may be played afterward.”

Thanks for that answer, but that just seems really odd to me. A game can be shortened to 7 innings if it was completely rained out the day before. However, regardless of whether the first pitch was thrown or not on that first day, any SEC series can only last 3 days. What happens if the weather persists into the next day? Do the teams play 3, 5 inning games on the third day?

Oh ok. I was confused, but I thought surely they weren't doing that so that they could resume the TV broadcast of tonight's game. That would have been dumb.

I guess they are playing it afterwards, so they can go through standard game prep for the regularly scheduled game. I don't mind it really. We could pick up two SEC wins within minutes of each other.

Totally ridiculous, why would you not reconvene the first game this afternoon at 2:00 or so and get it done? Is there some conflict that won't allow us to do that? Makes no sense to resume a game STARTING at 10:00 p.m. or maybe later. I mean for all we know the 2nd game tonight could end up going extra innings.

My thoughts exactly. Even if you started in the afternoon and somehow it got tied and ran long just suspend it again until the TV game is over and then pick it back up. You've suspended it once so I don't see any negatives in there being the extremely slight chance that it might get suspended again.

It seems to me that this is a great situation for us. We can play the regularly scheduled game tonight and already know the situation for the bottom of the 7th in the final game. If I were in Cohen's shoes this would be the scenario that I would want.

That's what I was thinking. We are in great position to win the 1st game when it resumes, so let them think about that while we are playing game 2. If we win game 2, then we could quickly take the series win shortly thereafter. But if for some reason we lose game 2, we can quickly turn around and redeem ourselves with a two inning victory in game 1 to get momentum back.

Looks like Game 2 will be on ESPN3. I understand why they're doing this to keep the start time of Game 2 set. But it's still pretty weird.

^^ this makes more sense^^

And.....Unless HailState TV cameras can get into position within the 30 minute time slot between games, I don't see us being able to watch the resumption of last nights game.

I'm sure there are reasons, but they should have finished last nights game first.
