A pretty bad game all around on offense, but the defense and hustle plays were ratcheted up. We’re in the middle of a redesign.

RJ, but shoutout to the slim reaper! His three pt shooting helped us in being able to pull away in the second half for the win. Had a nice dunk also. Should have had another one!

RJ was great but Alex was that spark we needed to finally get a lead in the game and we kept it

My vote Alex

Went with AOC. I hope his confidence carries over. He did exactly what was needed last night.

Alex played a great all around game and was really shooting lights out, but RJ was plain and simple unstoppable! He did what he wanted, when he wanted to do it. Really feel great about this win.
Go Duke!

Not to take anything away from RJ because he had a great game, but he played like he was supposed to play. AOC was the bench scorer that had breakout game that we needed to win.

I went with RJ. He’s the reason we were able to stick with them in the first half when it looked like they were starting to pull away a bit.

Yeah, its the first time I haven't thrown something at him since Christmas. 5 points, 7 boards, 3 blocks and only 1 TO. Gave us 27 minutes of good defense too. 3-4 from the charity stripe.
Hahaha i guess it depends on where you sit. I thought he fumbled multiple passes, played pitiful defense and gave terrible fouls. Glad Bolden stepped up.

Really? I thought that was the most effective Jav has been in about 2 months.
Is it possible to agree with both of you? I thought he played fairly well for how he typically plays but some of the rebounds he couldn’t hold onto almost made my head explode.

RJ gets my vote, and he shot 14-20. Alex was a great sidekick. Bolden played the last few minutes like a hungry man, probably saving us with his rebounding.

Javin is what he is. I call his game a success simply because he had more points than fouls. 5-4. Gives it all he has, just doesn’t have much to give in terms of talent.

RJ was the MVP. He’s elite and his talent will carry him to many accolades. But, I think it’s important to showcase Alex for an awesome breakout game. I know the game ball should go to the real MVP but I don’t think RJ would mind sharing this one.

I guess "gameball" could be translated as MVP or X-factor and probably some other designations, too. I went MVP: RJ.

Just personally, myself, I always vote gameball as, biggest reason we won.

Love all our players!

I mean I get everyone saying “we don’t win without Alex,” but I don’t necessarily agree. He was the only one outside of RJ who could hit the ocean with a rock last night, but maybe someone else steps up and hits a few of the shots he hit. That was his role and fulfilled it like a champ.

However, there was no one else in a Duke uniform capable of, or willing to play in the middle of that zone. In my opinion, Alex absolutely helped win that game, but the real narrative is that we definitely don’t win without RJ.

No argument here , I voted RJ, lol.

For the people that said we don’t win without Alex, how does that game play out without RJ? It’s not even debatable who was the MVP. Alex has a career game was a much needed scoring punch. But RJ was an absolute beast when we needed him the most.

I can’t agree with this, i thought Jav was pitiful.

I'm not sure I thought he was pitiful, because I did think he did some nice things defensively. What I get frustrated about with him, at times, is he'll make a good play on the ball, not pay attention, and promptly turn it over TOO MUCH. That was frustrating as heck.

I could argue we don't win without either of them. RJ was special - and there certainly is an argument for him receiving the game ball, as there is almost every game.

I'm going to play devils advocate here, though. SOMEONE had to step up other than RJ in Zion's absence on Saturday and I think alot of us believed it would be Cam. Alex' confidence, shooting and energy were the difference in us winning that game or not (again, obviously RJ too).

It's not that RJ doesn't deserve it - but it's sort of like Coach K not ever getting Coach of the year anymore cause everyone just expects Duke to be good. Well, RJ should be good, but the catalyst was Alex IMO.

K'ville OUT! :D

Rewatched the game last night, if it wasn't for RJ, we would have been down by 20 in the first half. RJ was the best player on the floor by a mile.

Great Alex game though. My buddies and I were laughing, every time Buddy Boeheim came into the game, K made sure Alex was in too, Alex found someone he could shut down.

Dont disagree in the slightest, we don’t win that game without Alex too. My point was if without Alex we lose by 2-5 points, without RJ we lose by 10+ easily. You mentioned the Coach K coach of the year argument. That’s exactly right. Just because RJ is supposed to be good doesn’t mean he loses any shred of value when he is good. And he wasn’t just good against Syracuse he was special. I understand the votes for Alex, just don’t agree with them. But Duke won, so these debates will never be upsetting.

RJ and it’s not even close!

We will see what AOC does against Man-to-man defense. He had success against Syracuse earlier this year so his performance is not a surprise. But his contributions were in deed appreciated!
