I know a lot of us like to spend a long weekend in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, so I thought I should post this here.

Due to the wildfires, they've evacuated Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. About a dozen structures are on fire currently and that number is expected to grow. Right now, the most well known structure on fire is the Park Vista hotel.

I'm down in Tally and it hadn't rained here in 5-6 weeks.
I talked to my wife's Uncle who lives in Dalton and its worse up there.
Parts of the South are in deep droughts.

Yep, been so bad here around the Lexington area that most all the ponds and such are at extreme low levels. Getting some pretty good rain tonight so far and hoping that helps a bit. Supposed to go golfing tomorrow but would rather have the rain as we are desperate for that right now.

Started raining pretty hard here about 45 minutes away from Gatlingburg. Won't be enough to put out fires but may help.

States like Alabama and TN don't even have state-wide drought plans. It just is unthinkable, or at least, has been unthinkable foir a drought to ever happen here. Hope everyone stays safe. We had a good rain here in Nashville during the game, had to cut to the internet stream for abit there .... here's to prayers for everyone staying safe and nobody getting hurt.

My dad lives down there. He's about to make the decision to head out. Says the mountain behind him is on fire, the whole area is saturated with smoke, the lights are starting to flicker and to top it off they are experiencing 70mph winds.
Not good, not good at all.

Hillbilly Golf gone.
Animals in Aquarium in danger because no power.
Reports that 1/3rd of town is destroyed.

Sad

Weather radar showing significant rain moving through the entire area, it may not stop it, but at least slow it down a bit and let the firefighters catch a break.

I was in the Park Vista last week for 3 days...it is now surrounded by fire.
Same here, we just left Sunday morning. There was a wisp of smoke coming from over some hills and it was smoky in Sevierville. Seeing those photos and videos from that hotel lobby 36 Hous after I ate breakfast there is surreal.

I am praying for a quick resolution. I know a lot of families are supported by that town and it's tourism.

Westgate Resort. Gone.
Black Bear Falls. Gone.

Much of the Gatlinburg strip is on fire.
The aquarium has been abandoned.

This is goddamn awful.

Ober Gatlinburg, the ski resort, reportedly is entirely gone. Also, Park Vista, the big round hotel, overlooking G'burg is gone.

Stayed in Park Vista just a few months ago in July. Have also stayed in Black Bear Resort in the past. This is terrible news. We like to joke and kid about the place, but it is a nice little get away spot just a few hours away. Here is to a full recovery. Stuff will get rebuilt, it will come back better than ever. Maybe even get a few Papa Johns now that there is a few extra spots to build on.

According to the press conference there just now.

Over half of the 10 sq miles of Gatlinburg was affected. Over 100 buildings damaged or destroyed.

Ober Gatlinburg, Dollywood, Aquarium all intact.

The problem with any recovery is that those communities are almost entirely dependent on tourism. Unless insurance covers the loss of business, any interruption in the tourism industry could be devastating. The bigger properties should have enough insurance coverage. Not so sure about the smaller businesses.

Man, that is just a shame, prayers for everyone in that area. There are some great memories there. Everything down there is wood, it's a really scary situation.

This is a nightmare. Do I want to go to some new, shiny Ripleys Believe it or Not museum? With new facts and crazy stories? No, I do not. I want to go to the same Ripleys Believe it or Not museum where I always question myself "Haven't I been here before?" and then I realize "Yes! I have seen that shrunken head before". That's G-Burg right there.
