We are not Florida, Tennessee, Bama, etc. We don't have all the resources we could ever wish for at our disposal. At this point in our program, getting highly talented people to stop in for 3-5 years in leadership positions, do an outstanding job, and move on to something bigger and better is what we should be looking for. When we are competitive on the field again, we can start competing to retain that talent. I'm not discounting the value of stability in a program, but from where we are right now, I'm more interested in ability.
Mullen is going to be gone before long too, but I hope that he leaves us in much better shape than when he arrived and makes the head coaching position at MSU a position to build upon rather than re-build.
The swan lake mentality of preferring that we hire people who will die in a position at MSU really irritates me. We need people who are interested at growing in their careers, not ending them or riding them out. Right now, good people are going to outgrow us, but if we have enough good contributions that may not remain the case. This is what worries me about Joe Dean Jr.
