Reminds me of the 2012 playoff game with Nequa Valley, which featured Joey Rhattigan at running back. Carmel prevailed in a tense, exciting game, stuffing Rhattigan several times in a goal line stand.

And then MC drove like 80-85 yards in the last 2 minutes to win. That was a great game from start to finish.

As an addendum, Joey went to Princeton and was responsible for that class being the winningest class in PU history. Joey was a Captain (iirc) as a SR RB. What a great kid and tremendous RB.

GBN beating MC this Saturday would be a great story after last year's 0-9 season. Unfortunately this Panther fan, although hopeful, has seen too many losses in the recent years to predict a win. One thing that could be a difference is the passing (that's right I said passing!) game of GBN which seems much stronger this year and hopefully that more balanced offensive attack will keep this game close and give them a chance for the upset. Could be very interesting!

wow.

NV, Warren, Batavia.

1 NV (only loss was to ESL 50-48 so you have to respect that)
2 Warren (undeated but no real powerhouses on the schedule)
3 Batavia (have to respect that program)

Who do you think was best? Did you see those teams play vs GBN?

It's a direct quote, from a guy who used to work for the Carol Stream Fire District.

If all things being equal (turnovers, penalties, officials) and both teams play their “A” game I pick MC. Home field is worth a couple of points. I pick MC 27 - 20.

MC has a comfortable lead then NV made a mad comeback at the end. Damn near got the onside at the end
That’s right. It was like 26-14 and then 26-21. I’m getting old. I think the last minute drive to win was GBW v NV.

I went to the NV game but not the Warren or Batavia games, these were early in the year games and they have been coached up and are playing much better now with much more confidence obviously on both sides of the ball so it should be a good game, don't see an MC blowout but can't be surprised about anything that happens in HS football.

Should be a great game and a great atmosphere on the campus at MC. Look for Benjamin Perry to play a big role in the passing game both on defense and offense. Another thing to note, MC has played 10 games thus far, 9 of those games have come on Friday night. How will they respond to the change in routine?

They will respond fine. I think the "change of routine" is vastly overrated. Most schools played 8 or 9 Friday night games before last week, and I cant say I heard anyone state that a team didnt play well in round 1 due to the change of routine.

MC vs Naz - Lynch will put a great gameplan together and come after them. Then off to NIU to replace Thomas Hammock

That kid has a good nose for the ball, watched his Marist highlights, excellent tackler and seems like no matter where you go he shows up at some point.

I think they got caught got looking ahead last year with SCN and felt that sting for a long time. Playing Phillips would be a fun game but I really think this team is focused on DeKalb and will not be looking past GBN. 2007 a 13-0 #1 MC team lost to a 8-4 GBN team in the Semifinals...Jordan Lynch was the QB on that team, he’ll have them focused. Will be a great game.
Why is it that everyone thinks MC was looking ahead, why can't it be admitted they got beat by a better team..?

If GBN wins what will be the excuse this year?

In my personal opinion MC had the better overall team, SCN and Tyler Nubin just played better that day. MC made a lot of costly mistakes. Not an excuse, it’s a fact. Hats off to them, and I’ve never said any different, I just think we had the better team, but the better team doesn’t always win. Common tale in sports.

I am not sure if they were looking ahead or if they just ran into a hot team. If I recall correctly SCN hit their stride at the right time last season and “upset” a couple of teams on their way to the finals. It happens every year in the playoffs, no matter what sport or what level. Hats off to the kids and their staff. Not sure anyone was beating Naz last season

NV hit a Hail Mary with about 50 seconds left to make it 26-21, then almost got the onside, it bounced out for a second and MC got it in the rugby scrum.

That was one of the better teams I have seen MC beat. 14 all entering the 4th. The goal line stand prevented MC from being down 14-0 as Dudek took opening kick to the house.

The goal line stand

The goal line stand was decisive. NV took four straight shots, with Rhattigan shouldering the load, and MC shut 'em down. Steve Richardson and D.J. Romero were two of the many standouts on a stout Caravan defense. On offense, Don Butkus, among several others, proved to be tough and resilient.

Some people will say looking ahead simply because the week before they were very focused and played almost the perfect game. Based on history, one would assume that when MC is focused, they typically don't turn the ball over nor make costly mistakes.

That defense also held Justin Jackson under 100 yards in the championship game. I think he finished with like 66 yards on 25 carries. It was a great performance by them.
