Gee: WVU Shouldn’t Worry About Conference Affiliation

“What will happen is there are going to be a lot of moving parts over the next several years, and we will make certain West Virginia University is a very integrated part of those moving parts.”

Some sports pundits have suggested WVU might want to align with the Atlantic Coast Conference and restart its celebrated rivalry with the University of Pittsburgh, as well as have highly anticipated games with Virginia Tech and the University of Miami.

But thus far, ACC officials have extended no invitation to WVU, according to Gee.

“I will tell you we are continually devoted to our Big 12 league and our Big 12 conference,” he said.

Gee is well connected and experienced. He has no need to be worried or scared.

He also doesn't need to lie which would be harmful in the longterm.

In the short term nothing will change.

Heard the same.
WVU is right in there with the 8.
Tech/KU are the ones beings watched

Or Gee is playing it smart and sitting in the circle but talking to his other girls later in the ACC.
If that is the case he cannot complain about what Texas and OU did

The Baylor people are putting a lot of good info out right now.
Gee being one of the biggest voices about moving forward came from them

He comes out and says it

Ultimately the snake is who survives in this place. We will see what happens

So far the conferences in power have maintained that via a majority of schools --65 including ND.

Going to be interesting if a smaller number can maintain power over a majority of schools--but if a tv network or network will put them only on and fund it then probably so.

Just can't see most of the country caring anymore.

Yes, no need to worry about the biggest source of income for the athletic department. Sit back, relax and watch us F this up.

Should WE worry about trying to raise Endowment while tightening our academic standards??

I guess you can behave like a private university…
I actually disagree about that mentality. No reason for a public school to cut enrollment. Hurts the state.

What you need is to increase the number of applications more than cutting enrollment.
Regarding the rest. This is basically on the state.
Once again the University serves the state. Difficult when the economy isn’t growing to improve research.
Research grants come from businesses in the community or the federal government.

Statler College of Engineering isn’t horrible…
Actually decent
Has connections in the energy industry across this country
Plus NASA

Have to make sure it moves forward towards what is needed in the future

Gee is a Mormon
His anti Catholic statements a few years ago still makes you think he still sees himself as a Mormon.

Church of LDS has a weird relationship with Catholicism.
Actually behaves like them even though they are their biggest critics

Even with being from the University of Utah there are rumors that he has been pushing for BYU in the Big 12

Islam

Some of them are kinda jealous what they can do it Saudi Arabia.
Plus they can still marry 10 women there

Wouldn’t want BYU in the conference

If any of this is true, then we are in trouble.
Look at this article.

Muslims around the world have identified them as “friends” in the US
Mainly because they went to war not just once with the US but multiple times

Feel welcome at BYU😂 They actually send their children to their school

And then there’s Utah: as of April, the only state in the nation where Republican officials have not publicly attacked Islam since 2015.

So dont invite them to whatever conference you root for. May not be a bad option though in an expanded BIG 12 as they have a good fanbase and a solid third tier outlet.

If you ever been to Europe. Mainly Italy, Spain and France you know how cities are set up.
You see it in Latin America as well

Cathedral is the center of the city
There are only two major American cities like that
San Antonio. They continued what the Isleños set up when they arrived from the Canary Islands.
Even New Orleans eventually changed the city
The other is Salt Lake City
Set up with the main Mormon church at the center.
It is a beautiful cathedral. Actually both of them are.

Utah, parts of Idaho, Nevada and Arizona the Church of LDS is absolutely everything
Business, Government and Church
They behave very much like Catholics when they have numbers.

BYU loves power. Have to be careful with them.
I like a lot of the people involved. They are winners.
Complete discipline. They don’t even drink coffee

I‘ve driven around Colorado City, AZ. I got chatted up by a well-dressed man outside the Salt Lake Temple. I walked into and explored BYU’s stadium in Provo. Shocking.

Here's a bit more from the Gee interview:

excerpt:

Gee confident WVU will ‘occupy one of those chairs’ in conference realignment shuffle

“We’ll continue to play in the Big 12 for a number of years here,” Gee said on Thursday’s edition of MetroNews Talkline. “We own the media rights to Texas and Oklahoma and they are ironclad. Once they leave they’ll have to pay the league at least $160 to $200 million. But they have no real opportunity to leave for the next three or four years unless we decide that is in their best interest and we come to some accommodation, which is probably not going to happen at least in the next two or three years.”

None of the remaining eight Big 12 schools have publicly offered any clues about their plans to stay and help build the Big 12 back up or to seek a home elsewhere. Gee expressed confidence that West Virginia University will be well-positioned regardless of what other moves in and around the Big 12 may happen.

“When that announcement was made, everyone went catatonic. And I understand that. But once the smoke has cleared and the world is a little clearer, we have lots of options. One of those options will be best for us and we will take that one.

“I am very confident that there is going to be a lot of music played. There will be a lot of chairs moving the next couple years. I am very confident West Virginia will occupy one of those chairs. We are following a number of tracks.”

No way, they're like ND, nothing but problems.
I don't know if the 8 will expand at all--may be in their best interest to do nothing over the next several years except maybe make an agreement with the PAC 12 for OOC games, and/or plan for their next contracts.

But, just as the SEC did--taking the best options to make revenue and get more exposure, If/when the BIG 12 core expands then they'll have to do the same thing. Take the best options available.

I don't think that BYU thinks they'll come into a power conference making demands as they did with G5 programs, so its not really an issue. But again, who knows if the 8 will expand or remain at 8 as they collect UT/OU dues.

I think that's what got him forced to resign at Ohio State University. When that round of musical conf. chairs was being played, he said the following about ND possible admission to the B1G 10. "You can't trust those damn catholics. They're holy spirt on Sunday and holy hell the rest of the week" I'm glad he's at WVU and confident he'll land us with a chair in a power 5 or 4 conference when the music stops this round.
