One of those great character actors who rarely made any appearances in the last 10-15 years. Cannot remember exactly when it was, but saw an interview with him where Alec Baldwin was asking the questions and he looked ROUGH. Was not too long ago I think (1-2 years maybe). Wilder said he only came out for the interview b/c Baldwin was doing it and they were friends or had played the same part on Broadway or something.

damn - this is very sad
Gene Wilder was a true genius; and while he didn't make as many appearances in his later years, his movies are classics and he'll always be remembered.

So sad. I enjoyed many of his movies. The obvious have been mentioned but I also loved The Producers.

You know what doesn't make sense about Willy Wonka? The eccentric coot uses essentially a lottery system to will his company to a successor. He's relying on a 5 in millions chance of finding the perfect successor. But how did that ****** slugworth know exactly where and when a golden ticket would be found? There must be some underlying commie themes to the whole ordeal. I bet Wonka was allusory of Stalin.

I suppose that's more Roald Dahl's fault than Wilder's.
