I know this is an unpopular opinion but I think the lack of outfield seating was a swing and a miss for the new stadium. We went to the Saturday OM game and couldn’t see a thing from the concourse and left after the 5th inning. While it looks good on paper and TV, the concourse is useless for watching baseball. Surely the Architecture school could make some changes?

I agree that State should have built chairbacks further down the line. But I watched a few innings this weekend from underneath , you see the action. But yes, lose sight of the ball if it's hit in the air. It's a good place to eat for an inning.

The outfield rails are decent to watch a game. However, currently the university still has guard rails up in the outfield, so in some places you have to stand a foot off the rail.

one things for sure, everybody and their grandma wants tickets Saturday. I'll be watching from home. Ain't even going to try it.

You are right on both counts. Very big mistake not to have any bleacher GA seating in the new stadium.

We nailed this stadium. it's the best in the NCAA hands down. Like I have always said, MSU people aren't happy unless they are bitching about something.

I think we missed out by not having an additional 1500-2000 chairbacks down the lines OR probably should have added them by having additional rows up - from 1st base side to 3rd base side - maybe 10-15 rows or so?

I was really looking at the stadium configuration last weekend. Would've loved to see chairbacks instead of berms down to the foul poles, and the visitor bullpen behind a wall like the home one is. Of course, you can't do that because of the plaza in RF. I wish they would've rethought that a little. I like it but I wish they had moved it back a little so it doesn't interfere with game play and force such a short porch in right.

If they had done chairbacks to the foul poles, they could have extended the second deck similarly and easily have 12,000+ chairbacks.

It's hard to quibble though. It's the finest stadium in college baseball.

1. Agree that we need additional additional seating be it high dollar chair backs or outfield general admission bleachers or both.
2. The concourse is not there to stand and watch the game. Its there so you can see still engage with the game while in line at concessions, to and from the restrooms, etc. I don't know why you couldn't see anything from there really. I walked around the entire thing Saturday and had no problem at all other than maybe a fly ball. The old Dude was terrible for that reason, you couldn't see ANYTHING while doing the restroom or concession thing and the 2 tv's they had seldom both worked.

The 13k in the new stadium vs 15k in old stadium, more people actually see the field and play in the new stadium. The 2014 game that holds the record had a good 2500 plus watching big screens behind the 1b and 3b bleachers in the old stadium.

Why not build a stadium where all 15,000 can get in and have a clear view of the field?

So you want to build a stadium to hold a crowd we have had once or twice ever? Part of the design philosophy of this one is that it not feel like an empty cave with a crowd of 5-6000.

I’ve watched games from the concourse in the grandstands and the concourse/aisles in the outfield.

I’m in a left field lounge and always stand up behind the lounge in the aisle way to accommodate women and children sitting down.

It’s 6 in one hand and a half dozen in another. Someone is always going to not like certain aspects NO MATTER WHAT.

People with kids complain abt not having a seat. I’m willing to bet 80% of kids at games with seats don’t use them more than 75% of the time.

And they can still add chairbacks at a second level on both sides.

Might not equal 12,000 total but they can add some. Probably will in the future.

The problem with the new stadium is we've been to Omaha every year since it opened and now that's the expectation. That's going to drive demand. If we go 33-20 next near demand won't be an issue.

The incremental cost of a couple of sections of bleachers would be pretty small.

The athletic department put out feelers two years before construction to see how many people would buy tickets to games and would use that information on deciding how to build the stadium.

Clearly the ones complaining are the ones who didn’t care about baseball enough to respond so live with it and have fun on your berms while I sip on my whiskey from my club level seat.

If there's one thing we can all agree to disagree on - the baseball stadium seating is it.

Hell, within my own family we can't agree on where to sit. My wife will only go if we have chairbacks. I'm good walking around, standing, whatever. My kids want to be on the berms.

Here we go again….

“We need 15,000 seats!!!!”

”********! 5,000 seats is totally fine and its the most perfect stadium EVAR with no possible room for improvement imaginable!”

Nobody is ever winning this argument by championing either of these two extremes.

I didn't say that. I said it was quite obviously designed so that it doesn't feel like an empty cave when there are only 5-6k there. If you build15k seats that is what it will feel like when it's half full or less, which it almost always would be.

You said we “nailed the stadium, it’s the best in college baseball, etc.”. From an appearance / aesthetics standpoint, yes we nailed it. From a size standpoint, we certainly did not. After spending $80 million, we shrank ourselves down to where we now have the 2nd smallest permanent seating capacity in the whole SEC West....only Auburn is smaller. We also have about 2,000 fewer seats than the old stadium had. Kind of silly when you put it in that perspective.

We could have easily remedied that by simply putting 1,000-1,500 more seats somewhere....chair back or “nice” bleachers in the outfield for GA...or a combination of the two....doesn’t matter. It’s an awesome place to watch a ballgame, but it ain’t big enough for our program. Just isn’t. Hopefully expansion happens soon.

What you miss is that you never know when the days of 10-20 years ago will come back. Our crowds were pathetic until 2014. I know, I was there. It was for that reason we chose to get commitments from season ticket holders first and foremost. Sure, the stadium may be too small for our current demand, but we're also on a bull run. It might also be overinflated because we're in the greatest decade of baseball ever at MSU.

Like I've said before, the biggest indicator is the season ticket waiting list.

As far as GA, I think they are simply out of luck as far as watching MSU baseball FROM A SEAT, unless they pay for a chairback. We simply do not have enough room. Any additional chairbacks will go to season tickets. The good news is, we have a ton of standing room.

I do wish we could work something out for GA, even if it isn't ideal. Because SRO fills up too, and this is the demand that will fluctuate so much with winning and losing.

If the days of 2001-2010 come back, none of this matters. But that’s a terrible reason to not do something. That’s like saying we shouldn’t do anything to the south end zone because we might make another Croom hire. Horrible, defeatist logic. The crowds were subpar until 2013-14 because of what happened in 2001-2010. We’re at the point of sustainability to where it can safely be assumed we won’t return to that level for any appreciable amount of time.

Out of curiosity, did the athletic department explain that there would be no GA seating? That seemed to surprise a lot of people.

Cohen is going to be very fiscally conservative. I’m not saying that is 100% a bad thing but I don’t think you ever see Cohen leverage the athletic department up without a damn near guaranteed revenue stream to back it up. That’s how you get the 10 year seat commitment instead of just building the amount of seats we feel like we can sell.

What in the sam hill is this $10 upcharge on the weekend pass for buying online? You mean to tell me it costs me $10 ($5 or $3.33 per ticket) to not have to interact at the gate? What? I know it was $2 a ticket before. What a crock of crap for digital upcharge. Whoever made that decision should be ashamed.

Guess I'm buying at the gate again this weekend.
