39-0 Geneseo

Geneseo does just about everything it can to be a good host and classy. Starters/1st-teamers dress but not a single one plays a down or any play for that matter. No sophomore game so Geneseo's sophomores dress and play alongside their varsity's 2nd-3rd stringers for the entire game. Mid 2nd-qtr Geneseo up 32-0 and Chicago Hope's coach walks out on the field having a huddle with the refs. Geneseo coach then joins huddle later for about 15 seconds and doesn't seem to say much or anything except just shrugs his shoulders or motions with his arms like what do you want me to do? And then he immediately walks away from the conference and back to Geneseo's sidelines while conference concludes. Half ends with no more scoring. 2nd-half is played with 8 minute quarters, all running clock and no play clock. I think there were about 12 total plays in the 2nd-half and mostly just standing around watching the grass grow between plays. Strangest, weirdest, most bizarre game I ever watched.

Thats because Chicago Hope is weird in itself. Spend a day with the president of that school and you'll know why and it all trickles down

Few schools can trace their founding to a Columbia grad and a priest meeting over a sippy cup of cocaine, but Hope is one.

Edit: Two different schools: Hope Academy (Christian school on the west side) and John Hope College Prep (CPS school in Englewood). This was the latter. My comment referred to the former.

One has to wonder why Geneseo was playing Hope to begin with. Sort of like Ohio State vs. Kent State.

I wonder why Geneseo was playing them too, and why they played Chicago South Shore, Blue Island Eisenhower and John Hope in their first 3 games this year. They've played like 32 games with Chicago inner schools over the last several/many years where I believe the average score was about 50-5 with running clocks and backups in play by halftime.

It's my guess or word on the street is that Geneseo can't find/schedule other teams or better options for non-conference games. Is everybody scheduling for the 5 wins to make the playoffs every year? They are in the Northern IL Big 12 with only 10 teams....5 per division......and with two cross-over games per year, they still have to schedule 3 non-conference games every year. One would think there would be some Peoria/Rockford area and Chicago suburban teams that they could schedule if availibility and schedules were in line. But it also takes TWO teams to want to tango/schedule.

NIC-10 Schools are all locked in schedules in conference, they play 9 conference games. You would be looking at the Non-NIC 10 schools to want to play (Lutheran, Christian Life, Rockford Christian, Marengo...)
