good to read and on rivals, it will eventually fall off so here it is...

The main post:

Miss State kicks our butt on and off the field (tailgating). . . .

Reply

_________________________________________________
. . . . . . as we found out this weekend. Now, they might not get up
and get going as early as us but it's a great atmosphere and experience
tailgating there. We met up with some friends of friends from MSU and
had a ball with them as they set up right outside the stadium. Sure we
were there a good two hours before they were but we didn't hold that
against them. After all they were allowed to set their stuff up Friday
afternoon so there was a more leisurely arrival the day of the game.

Interestingly
many of them don't go to the game in this area as the world's largest
jumbotron in the opposite endzone provides a beautiful look at the game
from the tailgate spot.

While we had a good time it was evident
we weren't set up in "the place" on campus. Our hosts told us about The
Junction on the opposite side of the stadium. Evidently the
administration and AD were upset that every other SEC school had large
green spaces in which to tailgate and which they were known for. Streets
were rerouted, greenspace created, and The Junction was born several
years back. The entire area is gridded off by the University with white
paint demarcating tailgate spots, walkways/streets, and keeping everyone
well away from roads/sidewalks. Every Friday at 5pm the campus clock
chimes the hour and it's first come, first served on the spots.

It
was an amazing atmosphere and it blew my crowd away that a 1-2 team had
a crowd that enthusiastic. Their Dawg Walk meandered through The
Junction while we were there and it was absolute insanity and even gave
my cynical self chill bumps. Also saddened me in that it reminded me of
what we have the potential to have in Athens and yet choose not too.
Honestly it was one of the top tailgate scenes I've seen anywhere and
I'd go back in a heartbeat. Every campus building was open for restroom
use, large portable bathroom trailers were plentiful, and all of it was
literally in the shadow of the stadium.

Damn do I hate Mike Adams.

The first time I went to the Junction I realized just how crappy the game day experience was when I was a student. I felt ripped off.

I honestly can't imagine feeling otherwise. I have never been to a more fun tailgate than our own. And the whole 'our stadium is too small' argument that many make is stupid. I've been to many UGA games and it just sucks to be in such a big stadium with crappy views and horrible traffic jams.

Tailgate right on the dawg walk and being one of the last few groups to tear down this was similar to what I witnessed Saturday night. Left Starkville around 7:30 the next morning, took a stroll through campus and the junction was spotless. Thumbs up to the crew who was out there all night taking care of that disaster.

Gameday Regulations for the 2010 Season

NOTE: New North Campus gameday guidelines will be enforced on G-Day.

Before the 2006 football season, the University Administration and
the Athletic Association enacted new tailgating regulations and
initiated an extensive communications campaign focused on three goals:

 • Enhance the gameday experience for everyone
 • Ensure gamedays are safe for everyone on campus, especially students
 • Preserve the beauty of the University of Georgia campus

The fans’ response to the effort has been overwhelmingly positive,
especially in regards to the first two goals. The third goal –
preserving the campus – continues to be a challenging goal on historic
North Campus.

Toward this end, the University Administration and Athletic
Association convened a committee to consider further methods to protect
the campus, especially the historic North Campus. The Committee sought
solutions that would maintain the long tradition of tailgating at UGA,
but at a level more compatible with the historic buildings and grounds
on North Campus. The consistently high traffic and negative impact to
this historic area on gamedays led many in the public to call for a
complete ban on tailgating in the area, while others called for
increased regulations. The Committee took into account the multitude of
letters and emails from fans and alumni, the wealth of media coverage
from the 2009 season and the physical costs involved in protecting this
historic and treasured University of Georgia landmark. Its
recommendations are being implemented as follows:

North Campus

To reduce physical damage to North Campus grounds and mitigate
behavioral concerns, the following new procedures are being implemented:

 • Tailgating on North Campus will be allowed beginning four (4) hours before kickoff.
 • The following items will not be allowed on North Campus on gamedays:

 • Tents
 • Kegs
 • Generators
 • Televisions
 • Amplified music
 • Grills or cookers of any type
 • Tables larger than 4 ft. long
 • Household furniture (folding chairs not included)
[/list]

These changes will impact a core group of fans who tailgate on the North
Campus, Herty Field and surrounding areas. For those fans who still
desire to tailgate in a large group, there are a host of other large
spaces for fans to tailgate without risking the historic assets of the
University campus while giving fans ample access to parking and other
facilities.

NOTE: North Campus is defined as the area bounded by Broad Street,
Lumpkin Street, Baldwin Street and Jackson Street (including, but not
limited to, the quadrangle between Broad Street and Old College, the
quadrangle between Old College and the Main Library, and Herty Field).

In order to accommodate the increased fan traffic in these areas, a few
changes in parking regulations are also being implemented at locations
throughout the campus. These changes will help to free up valuable
parking spaces to accommodate the more than 92,000 fans that gather on
campus during a gameday.

General Parking

The following changes will apply to all parking areas on gameday:

 • No pull-behind items (trailers, cookers, etc.)
 • No golf carts or ATVs
 • No parking on sidewalks (expanded to include Carlton St.)

Additionally, the ban on setting up tailgates (tents, tables, etc.)
in parking spaces will be reemphasized, to include those areas
controlled by the Athletic Association.

Wow that was awesome. I actually thought the Dawg Walk wasn't quite as what it was for Auburn or even Memphis. But that is good to get that recognition. Our game day atmosphere has greatly improved and it's a great feeling to start gaining respect from the big dawgs in the SEC.

drove down from ATL with self and we tailgated with a large group of MSU folks across from the architecture school. Needless to say, they were mightily impressed and were blown away by the atmosphere. They took a stroll around the stadium and through the Junction and came back grinning like Cheshire cats.

Also, they've been tailgating in the same spot on North Campus in Athens since the early 90's and were summarily told they could no longer tailgate there. Furious does not begin to describe them. But the UGA administration has been pushing people off campus for years now. I went with them to the Arkansas game two weeks ago and North Campus was like a ghost town. Many passer-bys were very vocal with their displeasure over the Athens tailgating scene.

They had a blast, except for the game (they want Richt fired). They were also very impressed with the Cotton District and downtown. I didn't take them on 12.
