I know that Nevada had some good teams a few years ago then kinda fell of the map. I would have thought Georgia could have done better then that. I would have thought someone a little more bigger then that, maybe Dayton's coach would have thought about it.

Took over for some guy named Trent Johnson.. went to the NCAA 3 years in a year, never making it past the 2nd round.
Last two years has lead his team to the "prestigious" CBI
123-44 overall in 5 seasons, 66-16 conference
Won the WAC regular season championship the previous 4 seasons before coming in 2nd this season.

as far as names go. that being said, he could be a diamond in the rough type, seeing as how he's had five straight 20-win seasons. but even with that in mind, it's tough to expect someone like MARK FOX to come in and compete against calipari, donovan, pearl, horn, and stallings. those are some great basketball minds. welcome to the league, *****. the ugas will be 4-12 in the conference next year. georgia needed someone who has an instant impact type status. hell, billy gillispie could've done more for that than mark fox.

Maybe a fail in terms of name recognition by the general public, but Fox is actually well known and respected if you follow college basketball on a national level.

The guy isnt exactly bad and seems to get the most out of his players on a national level.

...I still expect him and his teams to be mediocre in the SEC though...but thats more so because its UGA and UGA doenst care enough to actually put enough effort into basketball to not suck.

you'd think they could do better than a guy who lost in the 1st round of the CBI (not the NCAA or even the NIT, but the CBI) 2 years in a row.

My point was they were supposedly willing to pay that much for a coach who's proven himself in the Big 12 and then they had to settle for Fox, who's never coached above the WAC and whose record, while good, has slightly declined pretty much every year.

Ah, got ya.

He won the conference 4 years straight and finished 2nd this season. He won 74% of the games. He has won over 20 games every year he has coached(and almost hit Coach's absurd benchmark of 30). He was the WAC Coach of the Year 2 times in 5 seasons. He has recruited and sent multiple players to the NBA as well.

And he made the NCAA 3 times in 5 years, coming out of a league which has sent 8 selections in 5 years to the NCAA. Basically, its either win the league or dont make the tournament...and he got 3 of the 8 conference selections in his time there.

I totally agree that UGA shot for a star and came down with someone that can hardly be described as a popular coaching name in the eyes of many. But at the same time, he has recruited really well for a team in a league that is ignored, and his teams have dominated both in and out of conference.

I suppose it is settling, but its not like they are taking their sister to the Prom.

That doesn't mean anything, or so I've heard from KB34. I don't think its a bad hire, but I think they could have done better. I agree with you that Fox isn't a bad coach. I just think UGA could have done a little better even if they have been awful for the last decade. That being said, we're approximately two years away from KB34 declaring Fox to be better than Stansbury after he racks up an impressive 14-19 (5-11) record and leads them to a CBI Championship.
