This Georgia Tech blog was analyzing their possible bowl game with UK and basically all their fans are saying they are above UK. Should get a better opponent etc.

They're already playing the "We have nothing to win/everything to lose playing UK" card. Saying no one would care about a win because UK isn't good and if UK pulls the upset on them, it makes them look really bad.

Seems like I have heard this reasoning before from another ACC school.

Typical Deep South arrogance when it comes to UK. We are just getting started with them. Someone ought to make the marching band learn "As We Go Marching Through Georgia" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic".

I live in Atlanta and the Tech fans live in a different world that is not reality when it comes to football. Their fanbase is nominal at best. With that being said, their triple option will be a handful.

Meh, I thought the comments were pretty split. There were maybe a handful of comments not wanting to play us and a few that give us props.

The truth is, they do have more Football history that we have. Granted, a win over Ky is not as highly thought of as a win over a traditional name school. That said, let them go ahead and look down on us. It will make our victory even more satisfying.

Good. That will filter down to the players. Clemson did that to us when we went to MCB in 2006. We beat them.

The disappointment is kind of mutual. I would rather play Miami because of the name.
But~ over the last month, Kentucky has played a lot better than Georgia Tech has, and I have no reason to believe that UK wouldn't win.

From Georgia Tech's point, I can understand that sentiment. They have a better record than us. The media is saying their coach is on the hot seat. But they won 5 of their final 6 games, including wins over VA Tech, Georgia. From their point of view, playing Kentucky is a no-win situation. If they win, they were supposed to. But Kentucky just beat Louisville at PJ, so this is a trap game for them.

In fairness to GT, we don't want to see them either. They suck, they're gimmicky, it will be egg on your face if you can't defend the option (or the wildcat) with a month to prepare, and they're not a football power. They want auburn or aTm I'm guessing, we want Miami or VaTech. They want a bigger name for a better game and more exposure, so do we. I could give a damn what they want, I'm still hopeful for Miami in the gator.

I've not watched them or looked at there schedule, but they finished 5-1 in their last 6. Maybe that was against 6 lame opponents, I don't care enough to look, but I'd not be comfortable personally saying were playing lots better than they are the last month, seems like they closed the year playing good football too.

Well, Georgia Tech I prefer Miami or Virginia Tech in the Gator.

I remember when Georgia Tech was in the SEC. They were arrogant then and thought they were above the other schools and their fans in the SEC. So they left and went Independent. They wanted to be another Notre Dame. Their program went down the tubes in a hurry so they found another conference to join.

For the older fans you will recall Georgia Tech as a member of the SEC upset our basketball cats to end our record 129 straight home game winning streak. We owe them a beat down.

Good points. I don't want to play GA Tech, because what they do well exploits our biggest team weakness, and because beating them would not do much for our program. A matchup against Miami could potentially help Stoops reel in a late recruiting haul, especially with Lamar Thomas and Eddie Gran being so active in south FL.

I enjoy the comment saying that they deserve better because we havent beaten anybody besides Louisville. Who have they beaten? #25 VT is their big win. And they pulled one out vs Georgia. Thats it. They are lost. They may beat us but they arent the SEC wreckers that they think they are.

Old enough to have remembered Joe Dimaggio, Marilyn Monroe, Ralph Beard, Alex Groza and a few more. LOL It was a good time to grow up until Joe Helms hit that shot. I was 12 years old and this was the first game UK had lost at home in my life. I hate Georgia Tech.
Not to mention Joe Dan Gold on that team also I think, they beat us twice that year.

Tech's offensive advantage is diminished a bit when a team has 4 weeks to prepare for them and no other games left afterward to worry about. You can change up a lot.

Good stuff. My dad (UK grad) was born in 48, so doesn't really remember the game as he was 6 when it happened. But the dude can throw out any stats you want from UK back in the day. You guys would have a great conversation.

Georgia Tech certainly isn't a sexy name for us either. Give me Miami. I think it would be huge for recruiting down in Florida. I would take Florida 3 star athletes over most states 4 star athletes. We need Florida talent!

Good old Joe Dan, I represented his school district when he was supt a few years back. Good guy.
So I have heard, there is a treasure of UK related history, information and knowledge within this board. It is well worth hanging around just to know it still exists.

For those concerned about the 'gimmicky' offense of GaTech (one I LOVE by the way)...

Paul Johnson's contrarian offense has been the key component to GaTech being able to compete at a fairly high level with lower-rated recruits -- went from a perennial 7-win team under Chan Gailey to one that has won more than 7 four times under Johnson.

However, looking at his teams' BOWL GAME performances point out that while going contrarian may be effective when going against a team with ONE WEEK to prepare, it's a much different story when a team has several weeks leading up to a bowl.

SEASON WINS... WON/LOST BOWL GAME... POINTS IN BOWL GAME
9 ... Lost ... 3
11 ... Lost ... 14
6 ... Lost ... 7
8 ... Lost ... 27 (game went to OT)
7 ... Won ... 21
7 ... Lost ... 17
11 ... Won ... 49 (obvious outlier...was against Miss. St.)

I think GaTech and UK are fairly equal. Both want to "play up" but may be stuck with each other.
Anyway - it's the Gator Bowl, so who cares?

Dang right. It is the Gator Bowl everybody. At one time it probably ranked just below the Rose, Sugar, Orange and Cotton. To me it is still a great bowl and the venue is going to blow you away once you get inside that stadium. It is one of the best in the NFL.

Anyone from either fan base talking trash about the other is absurd, IMO. I've looked at their schedule and who they have beaten, and compared it to ours. There isn't a lot of difference between the two teams. They are a good football team, as are we. I also looked at total offensive/defensive ranking, as well as combine, and its pretty even. It should be a good game, as history has shown there aren't many blowouts when the two schools have faced off. Most games have been very close and competitive.

Give our team a month to prepare for the option and it won't be nearly as effective as it would be during the regular season.

I look forward to this match-up as it's a step in the right direction.

Wow, reading their comments - they certainly think highly of themselves.

I wonder if they realize that the national perception of them is mostly as an afterthought.

After beating Louisville, and with 3 weeks to prepare - I like our chances.
Georgia Tech also gets 3 weeks to prepare, and their staff is experienced. They run the football. Our defense has improved, but our defense against the run is still our team weakness. We have played a better schedule than they have, so that is an advantage for us. But the matchup isn't a particularly good 1 for us, and nobody is going to glorify us in the media if we beat them. I would prefer to play Miami. But it is what it is.

Watching the Georgia - GT game now. Everything they say about the cut blocks is true. I've spotted 4 in GT's first drive. We also want no part of the triple option. Our defense did an acceptable job of setting the corner against Lamar Jackson but thats one guy, you've gotta worry about 2 to 3 in this GT offense. I honestly don't think we could play disciplined enough to stop it consistently.

There is nothing about our offense that takes 3 weeks to prepare for. They have seen our offense a time or two this season. So I don't see how that's really an advantage for them. On the flip side we haven't seen the triple option attack this year, so all the extra practice time just for that offense will definitely be a plus for us.

We have more options on offense than they do, I guess is my point. They have one style and we have three weeks to prep for it. I like that a lot.

I don't understand why anyone would want to face Miami though. I have my personal reasons for never wanting the two schools in a bowl game together, but aside from that, Brad Kaaya is a very good QB and our defense has been pretty soft against the pass...more so than against a traditional rushing attack. Beating Miami wouldn't hold much more weight than beating Tech at this point in time.

I'm just happy for a bowl, extra happy for a good bowl, and extra extra happy for the extra practice time and effect on recruiting this all should have.

I work with a lot of Tech folks and can see Bobby Dodd out my office window. Tech folks are good people, and they to a person congratulated UK on taking down UofL (they don't like them either). Honestly, most all the Tech folks I know quit going to the games mid-way through the season when they lost three in a row. I had no idea that Tech had turned their season around. I hate for UK to go up against their blocking scheme. I understand why they do it - it's legal and effective, but I don't want to see any of our guys get hurt.
