There is nothing about our offense that takes 3 weeks to prepare for. They have seen our offense a time or two this season. So I don't see how that's really an advantage for them. On the flip side we haven't seen the triple option attack this year, so all the extra practice time just for that offense will definitely be a plus for us.

We have more options on offense than they do, I guess is my point. They have one style and we have three weeks to prep for it. I like that a lot.

I don't understand why anyone would want to face Miami though. I have my personal reasons for never wanting the two schools in a bowl game together, but aside from that, Brad Kaaya is a very good QB and our defense has been pretty soft against the pass...more so than against a traditional rushing attack. Beating Miami wouldn't hold much more weight than beating Tech at this point in time.

I'm just happy for a bowl, extra happy for a good bowl, and extra extra happy for the extra practice time and effect on recruiting this all should have.
Football games are about matchups. Georgia Tech would be a bad matchup for us because our run defense is the biggest weakness on our team this year, and that's what GA Tech does well. That will be true no matter how long we have to prepare. We have 1 advantage. We played an SEC schedule that was a little better than their schedule. I'm not saying we can't beat GA Tech. We might beat them, but this is strictly a TOP type of game. We don't have much to gain in terms of media attention or recruiting. There are better matchups for us. I would rather play Miami.

I live in Atlanta and the Tech fans live in a different world that is not reality when it comes to football. Their fanbase is nominal at best. With that being said, their triple option will be a handful.
Just lost their top RB... How will that play out?

Why does anyone get caught up on the bowl opponent (aside from the playoffs). Like others have said its more about the extra practice time than the one-off game. All accolades of winning your bowl game wear off in a few days anyway. Its not like its a measure of success for the coming year. The only thing people care about from the bowl season is the conference records and that is even fleeting.

Watching the Georgia - GT game now. Everything they say about the cut blocks is true. I've spotted 4 in GT's first drive. We also want no part of the triple option. Our defense did an acceptable job of setting the corner against Lamar Jackson but thats one guy, you've gotta worry about 2 to 3 in this GT offense. I honestly don't think we could play disciplined enough to stop it consistently.
Watching this game for the first time I'm amazed how Georgia could lose this. I'm up to the third quarter and Georgia has a 10 pt lead with 3 minutes left in the third and they're marching into the GT redzone.

I agree. Bowl games other than the playoffs are essentially exhibition games. No one ever remembers who won a particular bowl a week or two after it's over. Of course you want to win and look good to a national audience, but the primary objective is getting to the bowls which gives you the extra practice and rewards the kids for their hard work and sacrifice.

One person in this thread doesn't want to play Miami because our pass defense is suspect. Others don't want to play Georgia Tech because our run defense is suspect.
WTH? We have to play someone. We are the only team in the power 5 with two 1000 yard rushers. We also have a QB that ran for 75+ and threw for 300+ in his last game. Teams do not want to play against our physical offensive line that goes two deep.

How about teams don't want to play UK?

So I have heard, there is a treasure of UK related history, information and knowledge within this board. It is well worth hanging around just to know it still exists.
I always enjoy telling the story when I was in 7th grade (this is the late 80's) and we had some old guy subbing for our Spanish class and we just had a study hall. My buddy Ben walked up to talk to him and after class he says, "You know that guy played at Kentucky" The next day he was in class again and I introduced myself. None other than Shelby Linville. We talked hoops for the next 50 minutes. Just a great, great guy who devoted his live to the church.

The truth is, they do have more Football history that we have. Granted, a win over Ky is not as highly thought of as a win over a traditional name school. That said, let them go ahead and look down on us. It will make our victory even more satisfying.

1990 national champs right? I still chuckle when I think about GA Tech winning a national title.

Maybe it's only a small portion.

If you go on Georgia Tech's rival forum, there is a thread about the bowl game and they seem excited to face a former SEC foe.

I prefer to play Miami because that's a quality win over a team that is well known. What in the world is up with people being scared of Georgia Tech? We just beat Louisville. All they do is run inside, run outside, run the other way, throw a deep ball. No doubt we would win IMO

Ok. Georgia choked away a 13 point lead in the final 7 minutes of the game. Amazing. Now I get it.

Actually--four national championships (1917, 1928, 1952, 1990); sixteen conference championships (5 SIAA, 3 SoCon, 6 SEC, 3 ACC); 41 bowl appearances (23-18)--including a recent Orange Bowl win over Miss St. Plus, a guy named John Heisman coached there from 1904-1919. Pretty good history.

[laughing]

I'd just rather play a team that rarely passes so we can sell out on the run, rather than a balance good passing attack with able back. Focus on one thing instead of focusing on multiple things.

Also, I've made it known that I follow The "U", so my not wanting to play them is slightly biased.

Order of team I would like to play if we indeed end up in the Tax Slayer Bowl

1. Miami - have always been my second team to cheer for growing up, would maybe help land stud south FL recruits. Would be a very exciting game. Speed at skill positions galore.

2. UNC - They have a fun team and win or lose, it will be a shootout.

3. Georgia Tech - only because I feel like Virginia Tech will handle us fairly easy.

4. Virginia Tech - See number 3 above.

Stoops and Elliott faced the Triple option when they were at FSU, granted the 'Noles had better talent, but they more or less shut GT down pretty bad. It was actually Stoops last game as DC, and it was the ACC championship game.

I work with a lot of Tech folks and can see Bobby Dodd out my office window. Tech folks are good people, and they to a person congratulated UK on taking down UofL (they don't like them either). Honestly, most all the Tech folks I know quit going to the games mid-way through the season when they lost three in a row. I had no idea that Tech had turned their season around. I hate for UK to go up against their blocking scheme. I understand why they do it - it's legal and effective, but I don't want to see any of our guys get hurt.
Would not want to play any option team overa 2 year span we have not
been able to stop this type of offense.
IMO we have a better team but until we prove we can defend this style of
offense i'm not in favor of playing one.

In fairness to GT, we don't want to see them either. They suck, they're gimmicky, it will be egg on your face if you can't defend the option (or the wildcat) with a month to prepare, and they're not a football power. They want auburn or aTm I'm guessing, we want Miami or VaTech. They want a bigger name for a better game and more exposure, so do we. I could give a damn what they want, I'm still hopeful for Miami in the gator.
In truth, none of this matters. What we want or what they want is totally out of control for either of us. Sunday is coming.

The running back that just quit is their leading rusher and will NOT be playing in their bowl game.

http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...ng-rusher-marcus-marshall-announces-transfer/
Looking at their team stats I don't think its a big deal. They split the ball up pretty well. They didn't even have a single 1000 yard rusher on the team. Looks like they just plug in the next guy.

GT is 2-5 in bowl games under Paul Johnson. The challenge of playing against their style of play is lack of time to prepare - you just don't see it very much. I fully believe that's why he is 2-5 in bowl games - teams can game plan.

You also gotta think their D doesn't see a lot of quality traditional sets in practice either. Maybe I am missing something though.

Well, Georgia Tech I prefer Miami or Virginia Tech in the Gator.

I remember when Georgia Tech was in the SEC. They were arrogant then and thought they were above the other schools and their fans in the SEC. So they left and went Independent. They wanted to be another Notre Dame. Their program went down the tubes in a hurry so they found another conference to join.

For the older fans you will recall Georgia Tech as a member of the SEC upset our basketball cats to end our record 129 straight home game winning streak. We owe them a beat down.

Sawnee Cat, Your right! I was a Freshman in high school when they beat us the first time, and everyone thought we would beat them, when we played them again, WRONG, they beat us at home and at their home. I would prefer playing Miami, because of recruiting, but we owe the "Rambling Wreck" a real A$$ kicking, and were just the team to do it.

I don't want to play Ga Tech either because I don't find them exciting. I also don't blame them for not being excited to play us either. We're not a big name.

Oh, Georgia Tech also had Roman Reigns play for them so add his name to the list of Yellow Jackets greats.

They beat a UGA team that we could not beat, they ran Vandy out of the stadium. They run an offensive system that we never see. There are things that make this look like less than an ideal match-up,wish i had watched a little more of their game with UGA.
It took a last second score for them to beat UGA and it took a last second field goal for UGA to beat us. All things being equal, I think we played UGA every bit as tough as GaTech did.

Scroll down to the comments.

This Georgia Tech blog was analyzing their possible bowl game with UK and basically all their fans are saying they are above UK. Should get a better opponent etc.

They're already playing the "We have nothing to win/everything to lose playing UK" card. Saying no one would care about a win because UK isn't good and if UK pulls the upset on them, it makes them look really bad.

Seems like I have heard this reasoning before from another ACC school.
I believe it was in the Music City bowl that prompted Tommy Bowden to quip after learning he was playing Ky. You don't get anything for beating Ky in a bowl game. Of course he forgot one important thing after playing the game and that was to win it ?

Ga Tech guy stop to say hi. No one likes playing us so you feel like most others. Our defense is not great hell we ain't even avg on defense. Most of our fans like playing anyone in the SEC. If we do play I think it would be a good game. If it's in Jacksonville 11:00 am will cut down on the drinking :). Happy to see you beat UL I don't have anything against UL but I do hate their coach ( Also being a Falcon fan you can understand )

Hi there,

We're a bit used to no one getting excited to play us in a bowl game as well. I think the disappointed members of our fanbases have similar reasoning, both wanting more exposure for recruiting. I know we'd love to get more attention in the state of Florida for example, so some are hoping for Miami. I hadn't watched any GT until today and I gotta say that was a heck of a comeback to seal the UGA game. I think it would be a heck of a game to play GT. One things for certain, there would be alot of rushing yards for both sides

If Y'all don't pass much we may be able to keep y'all under 40 points :). Our defense we play is the bend bend bend and let them score. We hope by the 4 th quarter your offense would be out if gas. If you get to play Miami you have to blitz. We should have beat them but fumbled 2 times and they scored on both.

What really hurt was I thought that game was a fluke (maybe was) but they beat us the second time we played also, when I thought it probably would be a big revenge game win. I think they had a pretty good coach, think it was Whack Hyder or some other odd name.
