We need to offer this young man TODAY! At the least, our staff needs to take a close look at him. I am the color analyst for the Germantown Internet football broadcast and have watched Reed for two years. I could give countless examples of why we need this young man, but I will use only one. With 17 seconds left Friday night against Ridgeland HS, the Mavs were down by 3 and had to win to make the playoffs. Reed trotted on the field to attempt a 51 yard field goal. If he misses the season is done. He nailed it with room to spare. On the ensuing kickoff, he boomed it out of the back of the endzone. (Note: Ridgeland won in OT.) It's rare to see what he did in the NFL, muchless high school. He's the real deal. Bottom line: Reed could start for us THIS WEEKEND! If you would like to watch the kick, see the link provided below.

He is a solid kicker, not sure we have room for another kicker unless we do

some cutting.

I'm not

suggesting this kid isn't good, but I cannot take to much of what kickers do in HS as proof that they will be good in college. Kicking in HS (with a tee) and kicking in college (w/o a tee) are just two completely different things. I've see many, MANY, kids that were more than capable of kicking (in HS) go on to do nothing or not even play college ball. Hell, wasn't Bell a top HS kicker nationally?

Bell made less than 50% of his FGs in high school. I checked his stats when people on this board started raving about him and was shocked. I still don't understand why we ever signed him to be a kicker, other than as a kickoff specialist. But yeah, you're right. You can't tell much of anything about a kicker from looking at him in high school. Not only is he kicking off a tee, he's also kicking to a much wider goal post. Not to mention that, like any other player, his highlight videos are only going to show the kicks he makes. That said, I would expect Germantown to always have a good kicker because of the soccer programs in the area.

Unless it's a special case like the #1 kicker being from Columbus or something MSU should always grab one of the top JUCO kickers... every 2 years.

Best case scenario: Kicker is a bad *** and you get him for 2 seasons.
Worst case scenario: Kicker sucks and you only have him for 2 seasons.

I've got no problem with how we're using him now. But it's pretty inexcusable to wait until midway through his soph year to start using him properly. Mullen cost us some games by trotting him out to kick field goals.
