It's your show come August. Tyson Lee still can't hit a receiver more than 5 yards downfield. If a starter was named strictly on the performances in this scrimmage, Chris Relf would be our clear cut starter and that's a VERY scary thought.

Tyler could be starting sooner than everyone thought based on Lee's performance today. I've seen Tyler play, and I know it's high school but he would have hit some of those open receivers.

...The old saying goes: "The second string QB is always the best player on the team."

So according to many State fans, a guy still in high school is the best player on the team.

This is going to be a Cohen-type year for Mullen; I don't want to see him burn the redshirt season of a future star QB just so LSU beats us 41-14 instead of 41-7. Or so we can beat Jackson State 41-14 instead of 34-14.

If Mullen wants to invest wisely in the future of MSU football, he will takes his lumps his first season, redshirt Russell, & (like Cohen is doing), just tough out the first season until he can get his recruits in the program.

burn that redshirt in the 10th game of the season, and give him the ball 5 times, because "We need playmakers on the field NOW". I don't see that happening with this guy.

How about we NOT start Tyler next year since our last 3 starting quarterbacks have regressed in the offseason. I realize saying furboy regressed is a stretch since he was already hot garbage, but he never threw 6 picks in a game the year he beat bama.

According to you, Cohen only has 7 more years to get those 3 CWS appearances in, so I really don't put much stock in what you say. Also, I'd rather not gauge the program's success on margin of victory over JSU. The fact is that Tyson Lee can't hit the broad side of a barn so it's all going to be up to how long Mullen cares to watch passes over the middle thrown 10 yards wide of the crossing receiver or fly patterns overthrown by 10 yards. In a perfect world, we'd sneak thru this season and Russell would be redshirted and all would be good with the world. But the simple fact is in true MState fashion, no way in hell that happens.

and I'll say this- he needs to add some muscle. If he's going to start the first game, he needs to add some very quickly. And not the Stone Cold diet plan BS.

...is when Cohen begins to get his teams to regionals & super regionals, please don't come here in the middle of the games acting like an unhinged *** like you do in the middle of MSU basketball games.

Anyway, I see you are already backtracking on your original statement of "Get ready, Tyler Russell."

Mullen is going to have instant gratification fans like you screaming in his ear all season to start Tyler Russell.

I just hope Mullen doesn't cave to the hysterics of a no-nothing fanbase &, instead, puts the long term success of the program first.

I can't see burning the redshirt season of a future star QB in a season that already pretty much has an <span class="Apple-style-span" style="WORD-SPACING: 0px; FONT: 13px arial; TEXT-TRANSFORM: none; COLOR: rgb(0,0,0); TEXT-INDENT: 0px; WHITE-SPACE: normal; LETTER-SPACING: normal; BORDER-COLLAPSE: separate; orphans: 2; widows: 2; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0"> <em style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-STYLE: normal">asterisk by it.[/i]</span>

If Russell can get the job done, I'm not worried about "burning" is redshirt. We now have a qb coach, and Tyler won't be the last good qb we get.

but I really dont want to RS him now- I believe this group is going to be able to pull in more QB's, and therefore it wont be such a big deal....

Russell is going to come in and work hard to catch up to the speed of the game and all that involves a college offense. Alot of people dont realize Tebow went through Spring Practice with the team because he graduated early from HS, and he still only averaged 8 plays a game. It is going to take Russell awhile, even with what we have at QB. Why? Because he just simply wont be ready.

Look for Russell to get one series against J-State at the end of the game possibly. But he isnt going to start a game for us before at least Game 4 or 5, and it might be later than that.

main reason i'm not worried about RS him. this group of coaches is going to pull in qbs every year, i think (and no rebel clowns, i'm not saying we're going to be getting montana every year). the days of recruiting 1 qb every 2 or 3 years are over, people. that joke of a head coach that some of y'all loved a year ago is gone.

This season has no asterisk by it. You are a f'n idiot if you think that's the case. I'm not expecting stellar things, but if you think that we should roll over because we have to play freshmens then you haven't watched football in the last few years. Florida played 14 TRUE freshmens during their first NC season. I'm not going to yell about Mullen doing anything because we finally have a coach that is familiar with football in the modern era. Whether Russell starts or plays backup is beside the point. The point is that he's going to play. I had no illusions, unlike you, that redshirting him was EVER a possibility, but after what Lee showed yesterday its never going to happen. We don't have the **** Coast Offense anymore to blame for Lee's 5 yard completions and there's no reason to try and tiptoe thru another season of abysmal offensive football. After 100 years of football, we FINALLY have a QB that is supposedly worth a damn, he needs to play.
