Getting a little worried about the Houston game...

for a couple of reasons:

-We'll be looking forward to Florida
-Terrance Broadway, the QB we didn't offer, is starting for them and has RAT written all over him
-They have a bye week
-It's at their place
-It's at night

Now, we might be able to weather the storm, because Alcorn will probably be our emotionally down game. But I'm not terribly optimistic, especially considering our history with Houston.

and to install a sense of urgency and importance for this game. He has to make it clear that, if they want to go to a bowl game, they MUST win vs. Houston.

Seriously doubt it. We lost to these guys last year, remember? No looking past this one - especially on the road.

I guess he could have a breakout individual performance. However, he's still a true freshman. And looking at the statistics, they have tweaked the offense for him. They are running the ball a lot more. That can't be easy on anyone transitioning from what they were executing with Keenum at QB. Plus, if we didn't offer him, that can't speak too highly of him. We ended up going with plan C or D last year.

-They have a bye week

Good. Gives them one less week to get previously mentioned true freshman and tweaked offense more game time exposure.

-It's at their place
-It's at night

Definitely a disadvantage on the road - anywhere you play. The upside is that I seriously doubt their 30k fans will approach anything our players haven't seen before.

We win this game is we play a grade B or better game.

at our place in a game that could have eventually made us bowl eligible, hopefully our guys are in this for a little payback. I believe in this one that if we come to play and don't turn the ball over we will win, however, there is no guarantee that we will be focused and our offense has definitely shown the propensity at times to turn the ball over.

I know they usually are not a friend of ours, but maybe they at least won't completely screw us like the CUSA ones did last year.

and then they didn't take him, so he went to Houston. Not a bad prospect and we probably would have taken him in different circumstances.

when we are playing one the SEC power programs. Hopefully they will give us a fair shake against a CUSA school. Also, I was pleasantly surprised at the calls that went our way against Georgia. Of course, even with that, it still took replay to get the Georgia fumble near the end zone correct.

we lead the league in fewest penalty yards per game, don't you? SEC officials generally aren't out to screw anybody. They're just incompetent. They do seem to be doing a better job so far this year, though.

especially when you look at our stats on the season...

1. Penalties have already been mentioned
2. We have played LSU, Aub, and Georgia- yet we have outrushed and outpassed our opponents so far this season. That's impressive
3. We have dominated the 1st and 3rd quarters- that's a well-coached team

We'll be ready to play

#6 least penalized team in the nation.

After, the September cloud of dust cleared, I looked back and we lost to 2 undefeated teams who are now ranked #10 and #12. We were in both games in the 4th quarter and won our other two contests. Using that measuring stick, I'd say we have a team that should dominate Alcorn, Houston, and UAB. We should beat UK at home and UM away, and have legitimate chances against Ark and Florida. Bama is the only game I don't envision us hanging the entire game.

Its not so much penalties that screwed us last year. It was just bad calls. Particularly bad calls that got reviewed by a replay official who was instructed the defend the on-field official who made the call. Things like completions/incompletions, fumbles/not-fumbles really shafted us last year.

And against Houston, there was one penalty that shafted us and should have been reviewed. It was the "illegal forward pass" that Tyson Lee through from about a yard and a half behind the LOS.

He is always using threw for through.

This is from the Houston Rivals site....
<table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td style="padding: 6px;" valign="top"><font size="2">Holy crap...</font></td><td style="padding: 6px;" class="" valign="bottom" align="right" nowrap="nowrap"><font face="verdana" size="1"><a><font face="verdana" size="2">Reply</font></a></font></td></tr></tbody></table>_________________________________________________<font size="2">
I cannot believe what I saw out there today. Just to name some of the worries that I have:

1. O-line was HORRIBLE! They let everything through them without any resistance.
2.
Broadway under-performed. I know he is a freshman and it is his first
start, but come one, he missed multiple wide open receivers and either
"tried" to run it himself or threw to completely covered receivers.
3.
Broadway has a horrible throw. Did anyone notice how he threw the
ball?! It was almost as if his hands are not big enough to grip a
college ball. It was as if he was just thrusting the ball and not
throwing it because it was too large. I don't know, but there was no
zip to the ball. Everything fluttered in the air.
4. D-line continues to disappoint. They still cannot get pressure on the QB. Tonga is a bust and so is the rest of the D-line.
5.
Can you say, "rebuilding?" It seems to look like we are a team that is
having to rebuild. We do not look fluid out there on either side of the
ball, or special teams, and we were supposed to be this bad *** team
this year.Yes, Keenum is hurt, and I know that affects a lot of things,
but even when he was in the game we looked like crap.

That is all for now. I am almost scared to see how we play against Miss State in 2 weeks...Go coogs anyway!

P.S. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA @ Texas today!
