Getting a play called on offense

We were within ten seconds on the play clock nearly every play. We did this often last year as well. I can understand the idea of doing this to an OSU type offense so that they get no rhythm. The problem is we continue to do it no matter the situation in the game. We basically don't manage the clock well when needed.

Are Mullen and the OC talking over every play call? If so, maybe this much second guessing is causing the problem.

When many of the other programs with problems recruiting are going uptempo we are going the other direction. It would be nice to catch a team off guard with a mediocre play call that only works well because we don't let them get ready.

We were so much better when we only ran about six

Different plays with Relf. It was fast and powerful and yes simple. Ole miss
only runs a few plays with multiple options. We are making this way too hard.

I was saying the exact same thing. When it was 21-3 and we got the ball with like 14 minutes. We drove down the field, but it took 5:30 to do that. Even if we scored there, we burned too much clock to score two more times.

I thought they were doing it on purpose

The last thing Mullins wanted was to have the Okla. State offense on the field. The plan looked like they wanted to run the ball down OSU's throats and leave little time on the clock for OSU to get into a rhythm. If we'd have scored a couple of touchdowns in the first half, the plan would've worked perfectly.

The defense played very well. Remember, OSU is a team that regularily hangs 50-60 on an opponent. We held them to 21. If our offense had performed the rest of the game like they did that first drive, we had a chance of winning.

And I agree with that but you missed the part where we were down multiple TDs and we still can't get the ball snapped. An inability to get the ball off in the second half may have helped keep the score as low as 21, but losing 21-3 and losing 28 or 35 to three is still a loss. Speeding up the offense when it is necessary may end up giving the ball back to OSU too quickly but it doesn't matter if we don't have time for multiple, long, sustained drives.

At least by trying to go quickly we give ourselves a chance in that scenario. The alternative is no chance and some excitement that we held their offense to only beating us by 18.
