... because it's about a black slave getting sold away from her family - which is true as I understand it.

But I don't why the story ought not to be told and lamented -as the song does. Seems like she's being honored for her travail.

Yet I'm hearing Dandy is studying the issue of dumping it. Why?

During his briefing on Monday, when asked directly about whether it was time to retire “My Old Kentucky Home” and find a new state song, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he had not “specifically heard those concerns personally from community leaders.”

“It’s always right to have these conversations, but it’s one that’s going to take a little longer than the next week,” he said. “But when people are hurt by something… I think it’s incumbent on us to say please tell me why, let me listen and let me try to hear.”

I've watched the Derby every year since I was a child. I'm 56 years old now. When the crowd is scanned I've seen people of all backgrounds, ethnicity, race, gender, etc. stand and cheer and/or sing along with MOKH when its played at Churchill Downs. Now all of a sudden, it's offensive and it shouldn't be played anymore.

The only proper response to nonsense like this is to say “it’s a beautiful song and the only people offended and outraged by it are people who look for things to be offended and outraged by”.

Long past time we stop catering/giving any sort of credence to these people. Andy’s ‘muh feelings, let’s talk about them’ approach is old, stale, and keeps them in the limelight.

It’s basically a song about the brutality of slavery and I honestly don’t think it’d be replaced. Although, if you suggest we should, it really triggers people

Andy. Not a recent issue until last year when he wanted to start a dialogue. Now he wants another one.
He's adding to his resume for a position with the DNC Politburo after the next election when he's thrown out on his ***.

Meanwhile, his base, the only ones who could stop him, maintain their role as good little PC subjects to the all powerful daddy state.

So they aren’t getting rid of the state song and stated as much outright but you have a thread complaining about removing the state song. That’s because it’s not about politics or reality. It’s about getting a dopamine hit from likes and an adrenaline rush from anger. And that’s the internet in a nutshell

Don't see this happening anytime soon, but it's telling that this year at the Derby they just played the instrumental.

I'm more interested in what they'd use to replace it because I can't think of anything.

Isn’t it usually just the UofL band playing it anyway?
