Giants fans have a lot of nerve.

Holding signs saying "the torture is over." Try 102 and counting, then get back to me.

That's not me, but I understand.

I think it will be like when Boston won it in 2004. You'll see a BUNCH of people hop on the bandwagon and act obnoxious. Probably 40% that never even owned a Cubs hat before and couldn't tell you who Ernie Banks was.

And I'll be sitting around wondering where the hell all of these Cubs fans came from.

And while I look very forward to that day, I don't look forward to that aspect of it. I've "only" been a Cub fan since the early 80s, and when it looked like the Cubs had a chance to go to the WS in 2003, my wife asked if I was going to try to go. I told her no, that there were people in Chicago who had lived and died with the Cubs a lot longer than me, and I didn't want to take a ticket from one of them. One of "them" was probably Steve Bartman. Poor guy.

The baseball regular season ends in early October. Then the playoffs take until November to play. It's crazy. The five game division series featured two off days. Then 2 more off days before the ALCS and, since the NLDS's did not go five games, there was a five day break between the end of the NLDS and the start of the NLCS. Then two more off days in the ALCS and NLCS. Then another 4-5 off days before the WS starts. They spend more time not playing than they do playing. These are teams who routinely play 8 or 10 or 12 days in a row at times in three different cities. It's just lunacy to spread it out like this in the postseason. For the fringe fans, it's hard to establish any sort of flow or continuity with them when they don't know when the games are going to be on and they have 2-3 days or more to forget about it and do something else.

for the Giants. The SF fans starteda "the Giants games are torture" campaign late in the year and through the playoffs because they were winning each game by 1 or2runs. It was torture as a fan to be in so many close games.

I think the solution is to end the season sooner. As it is, the season ended 2/3 into the college football season. I think people by November are simply in "football mood" rather than "baseball mood".

I would start the season about a month earlier- as in March and cut spring training in half at least.

I also think it would help out a lot if the playoffs were on ESPN as opposed to TBS. And another thing I would do- no postseason games on Sat. or Sun. to compete with college or NFL football.
