Sumlin, Smart and Troy Calhoun (???????????).

Calhoun is a head scratcher for sure. No B12 connection to speak of.

If I'm a TAMU, I'm looking at that list and I'm thinking WTF????

There just aren't alot of great coaching candidates for a middle tier school right now.

IMO is the most attractive open job right now, BY FAR. They are a traditionally underperforming program that is entering the SEC west. This makes them more attractive to recruits that traditionally would put Texas ahead of them. Does it make them equal? Not quite. But the gap gets narrower as the Big12 continues to erode, hence why a program that traditionally recruits at ~25th is unanimously in the top5 right now. Their fans are realistic in their expectations entering the SEC, which gives a new coach a bit of leeway toward immediate success. If the new coach wins, they will put his name on the stadium, in much the same way we treat Mullen. I would call A&M a sleeping giant, but you can't be asleep if you've never awakened in the first place. That said...

They have EVERY natural advantage that LSU and Florida have...they just haven't yet found their Saban/Spurrier yet. They are similar to State in many ways, but not saddled with ANY of our worst limitations. They will compete in the SEC...maybe not immediately...but over time.

That said, Mullen will NOT go to A&M. Slive will never let it happen. When was the last time a highly sought SEC HC jumped directly from one job to another? Tuberville?
