Don't be fooled by this my friends. It's one of two things. either he has already made up his mind that he is going to UNC and a visit is not need or HOF Coach Roy Williams informed Giles that is not UNC worthy and Giles is doing this to save face. ;) OFC

Saw another report where Giles is saying his list is down to Duke, Wake, Kansas and UK....meaning he's officially eliminated the Heels altogether.

Hopefully we can lock him up soon. It'd be great to have him in the fold with Tatum.

I was very hopeful we could steal him away from Duke. Being we are still on his list and he visited BBM. But...

I think he's Duke bound. If you follow him on Twitter, he gave us the complimentary tweet after his visit like he did the other schools.

If felt like a nice young man thanking the school for the visit but it didn't seem positive for us.

I hope we can pull it off because he's a great player. But I've always thought he was Duke bound, and now I feel it more than ever.

Good luck to y'all. But I still have my fingers crossed. A fan can wish can't they?

He's definitely saying all of the right things, in that regard, JC. I'm always very apprehensive when it comes to these things....but I still like Duke chances, a lot. We'll see.

If Giles sticks to his timeline that he's laid out in the past then we should know in the next 20-30 days what he's going to do.

I think he seems like a great kid from everything I've heard or read. And everyone knows he's a great player.

I just hate the few knuckleheads from every fanbase trashing a kid for not going to their school.

I wish nothing but the best for him. It's his decession. And whatever that may be, is his. I have no problem when a kid picks his or hers school that they feel is the right school for them.

Like I said, I have my fingers crossed along with my toes, arms, legs, and eyes.;)

I think Duke gets him. But either way, good luck to the young man.

Yep. If he goes elsewhere, there is no place for a negative word towards him. He is a beast and a good kid, saying otherwise just makes you look dumb.

Yes, as much as some people on this board seem scared by the Barnes situation, I frankly think Giles picking UK over Duke at this point would be even more surprising than Barnes picking UNC. As much as we all thought that Barnes was going to ultimately pick Duke, there were some worrying signs of trouble heading into his announcement -- including that (i) Barnes' mom had such a fascination with MJ that she had a bunch of MJ videos that she'd show Barnes as a kid, (ii) that Barnes favorite player was MJ (even though MJ won his last title when Barnes was like 6); (iii) Barnes meeting MJ at a Carolina reuninion event, and stories leaking out about how that meeting had really made an impact on Barnes; (iv) UNC had just won a national title; (v) the perception that UNC had surpassed Duke as the top college b-ball program, and that K had started to decline a bit; (vi) stories from UNC people insisting that Barnes' mom favored UNC; and (vii) then obviously that weird kerfuffle about the last in-home visit.

At this point, I really haven't seen much to suggest a surprise here -- even from UK people. Duke just won the national title with a bunch of freshman, it's close to home, it plays in the ACC (which is surely the league he's followed all his life), his best friend on the recruiting circuit is attending Duke, with him, there's little doubt that we'd have the #1 class, we're going to have as good of a roster as any to win a national title, and -- unlike the Barnes recruitment -- there really isn't any evidence that Giles is subjectively drawn to UK over Duke, whether it be b/c he idolizes a former UK alum, has a particularly close personal relationship with any UK coaches, has one or both parents pushing UK, etc.

Then throw in the fact that UK's already taken commits from 2 5* PF recruits, which seems to suggest that neither the UK coaches nor their recruits are counting on Giles being there -- and it seems to largely be lining up for us.

You never know -- but I'd be surprised.

Seems Harry got the "Delvon Roe Treatment..."

Roy Williams doesn’t like to lose and that’s how it should be. Name a coach who does. So, when he lost a recruit – Delvon Roe – to Tom Izzo a couple of years ago, he wasn’t happy about it. Perfectly understandable.

But here’s the problem: he decided that the best way to go was to call out Roe when he wrote his book for lying to him by verbally committing to Carolina and then choosing to attend Michigan State.
No response from Roe.

Then MSU travels to Chapel Hill earlier this week and loses to UNC in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. At his post-game press conference, Roy gets a couple of questions about Roe and about what he wrote in the book. The Tar Heel fan blog lovingly transcribed his answer for us:

“I didn’t say Delvon lied. Go back and read it, well but I don’t mind saying it, he told me he was coming. Let’s be honest. He told me he was coming, he didn’t come. I’ve looked every day at practice, and I haven’t seen him yet. But understand one thing don’t make a bigger story than it is, because I love the kid and still think he’s a wonderful kid.”

Here’s the audio. He gets a hearty chuckle for his clever joke. But let’s remember, this is a 59-year-old man, talking about a kid who just turned 20. Stay classy, Roy.

Roy calls the kid a liar at least twice...once in his book and once in that interview. Then , he turns on a dime and says how much he "loves" Delvon. WTF? Audi's post is believable. This is Roy with Delvon...

Keeping in mind that the Spartans and the Heels play each other tonight in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a writer for the Lansing State Journal caught with Roe's father, Delvon Blanton, to get the player's side of the story (make sure you hit the link, a lot of good stuff over there):

Blanton said he and Roe visited North Carolina together once, then Roe went by himself on a visit for the UNC-Duke game. Blanton said Williams wanted Roe to commit before the game to get the team hyped. Roe called Blanton. Blanton strictly forbid him from committing. ...

"Delvon still loved Michigan State and a few weeks later, when he was home and he could think about the decision without someone in his face, he realized that's where he wanted to go."

Roe had a hard time summoning the courage to tell Williams, Blanton said. Blanton told him he had to make the call. He did, and Blanton said Williams started yelling on the other end.

"I don't know exactly the words he was saying, but he was upset," Blanton said of Williams. "He started going off on Delvon. I mean, Delvon's an 11th-grader, he's shook up. So I grabbed the phone and said, 'Let me tell you something, you never disrespect my son like that.''

It's possible, Denver. If it is it's not going to end very pretty.

Once the NCAA announces the punishments for UNC...if the men's basketball program does get hit even though it's been speculated that they won't get hit..does anyone think we will see something similar with Roy that we saw with Boeheim where he'll announce that he's retiring within the next few years? If he does then will it be by his own choice or by quiet suggestion by UNC like some have speculated was the case with Boeheim?

If unx gets a post-season ban ( I still contend they get at least a year...for reasons I've enumerated earlier ) I think Roy's done. Can't imagine his pride allowing 'im to coach thru even a single season under sanctions. And lest we forget , these are sanctions that resulted from violations on HIS watch. Sure , they STARTED with Dean and continued on under Gut and Doh but the numbers tell the tale. Roy had the most players ( by far! ) wettin' their beaks in the AFAM scam. One other thing. Roy's not teflon either. He goes under the bus too if Dean's legacy is threatened. unx just might work out a sweetheart back-room deal to usher Roy out if it means keepin' 'im quiet and preserving Dean's sainthood.

According to Steat, Giles was born and bred a tarHole. The Giles family hated Duke and there was no way he was going to end up at Duke. Lets hope Steat is wrong on both ends.

The funny thing is that two years ago, all the Hole posters at THR were all convinced he was going to be a Hole. Now I read their board, and frequently read posters state, "Giles was NEVER going to come to UNC". What happened???

If it wasn't for the NCAA making up false allegations because of their jealousy and hatred towards UNC, Duke would obviously be eating UNC's dust on the recruiting trail and Giles would have committed 18 years ago.

Truth is, Giles is just a arrogant punk who has no respect and was never UNC material to begin with. I believe that is the actual reason, according to some at least.... sour grapes possibly?

Never mind my last post. I think he is referring to Oak Hill's first game which is Nov 3. Duh!
Yeah he's probably talking about the first game of his season because I read an article earlier that was about a blog that Giles is doing and in his blog he talked about being ready for his season to start and he said their first game is November 3rd. I also read another article recently where his coach pretty much said that Giles will most likely make his college choice announcement somewhere between November 11th-13th.

I missed this.

I don't know for sure, DiehardDuke, but it seems like a good possibility. They extended Roy's contract so they could be paying him upfront in case anything does happen. And if UNC does get hit hard, Roy & UNC will probably be in mutual agreement...that way they can spin it as the sanctions had nothing to do with it, and that Roy and the university were happy with the job Roy was doing. Roy just taking off for more time with his family.
