He's been acting for months like Giles to OM was a done deal. He's known something for quite awhile.

Im sure ole miss will get him in. we wouldn't have and he would have gone to juco only to fade into bolivian like they all do.

if he's JUCO bound then it really doesn't matter too much. If he committed to us and then made the switch it means he liked us both at some point and the reason for the change was either b/c OM promised they could get him in or something. Odds are that if he doesn't get in, it will be open recruitment again in 2 years if he pans out anyway.

at least that's what they say. So basically all it does is take another bullet away from Mullen's sweeping the state gun.

ETA: I want to say he hasn't taken his test yet though, and he hasn't made any officials because of that. If that's the case you never know, but I still bet on him being sign and place.

This could have been done by OM to "convince" him to sign with OM simply to put a dent in Mullen's (we signed mostly MS kids) argument and gives Nutt once more guy he can show he signed.

It was pretty obvious that Nutt made a late dash on most of the bigger in-state prospects and well as some sign-n-place guys after virtually ignoring most of them until the last month.

If we lost a sign and place guy and filled that spot with Day, then Nutt can take his moral victory.

I'm actually happy about this. I'll take Day for Giles any day. It worked out best for us in my opinion.

OM has 6 spots which we cannot fill with a qualifying recruit. Why not go after guys like Giles who are sign and place to fill those last spots. Y'all get a qualifier, and we use an offer that will never be filled, in all likelihood.

if the choice was sign Day as a qualifier or sign Giles to place in JUCO, I'll take signing Day. You can never have enough quality lineman and I think Day is a guy that will contribute.

I don't get that idea. We didn't ignore the big in-state guys. We were after Wells, Eulls, Robinson, Coleman, Johnson, Giles, Martin, Bennett, Parker, Thompson, and Sanders the whole time.

We ignored a lot of the other in-state guys you signed and never made a push for them, but we were pushing for all of those guys early on. Who is it that we waited until late to start making a push for?

If Giles is a non-qualifier, and we have 2 more slots to sign someone (which we do), then Day didn't take Giles' spot.

I actually think Day took Noblin's scholly.

if you don't sign 28, and Giles is really a sign and place, then Giles obviously would've had a spot.

but even with Robinson, I know we were trying to get our foot in the door as early as last summer with all of the OB players, we just couldn't make any headway. He wasn't as high on our list as Coleman, I know that, but I definitely think you could say we made a push for him early, though we didn't get a lot of response back.

My point was simply that you didn't hear a lot of OM chatter from a lot of they guys until late when Nutt was secretly showing up at the schools and working doubletime on some of the guys. I'm not saying OM should have extended offers to all the guys we signed, but it was like they weren't even talking to them and trying to build relationships with the schools. Myabe it just wasn't reported.

I have no idea what really goes on but there was lots of chatter about OM alumn not being happy with OM not signing many in-state guys and then all of a sudden Nutt is visiting a lot more MS guys and trying to get them into late visits etc....could just be coincedence - I have no clue.

I think the deal is that we were after all of the guys I listed early on. A lot of them just didn't reciprocate early on. We pursued the guys I listed from the outset. We didn't start out of state and then come back in. We had that same list of top priorities in-state throughout the process. We just tried to make some final pushes on the ones we weren't getting (Wells, Johnson, Robinson, Coleman, Eulls, etc.) to see if we still had an outside shot. We were after them from early on. We just lost out and tried on each of them at different times to get them to change their minds or give us another look.

Was there any talk of him being a soft verbal? I think this kid is really stupid too. I think at State he would have had the chance to play on either side of the ball, but at Ole Miss, I don't think he even gets a chance at tight end in their offense b/c I don't think he will ever put enough weight on to be a good blocking TE.
