I thought that in the playoffs a coach of the losing team had to ask for it to run. But I have been wrong before.

The refs briefed the clock operator on the running clock rules before the game started. They did not use the play clock once running clock started. Inside 5 minutes in the 4th no one was in any hurry to run a play.

I do not like running clock. Even worse, I do not like refs helping teams run out the clock in first quarter and 2nd quarter by delaying blowing ball ready for play. This is usually done to allow QB time to go to sideline to get play. I wish NFHS would ban this. If coach cannot signal in plays let QB call own plays. More time is wasted with this practice than any other facet of football.

First and second quarter clock ran as usual and with the cold (and as the scoring gap widened) the ready for play whistle was pretty quick.
