So did Ginn have Tommy John surgery or a less significant procedure? I know he is done for the year but will he be 100% for the start of next season or will he be working his way back?

Dependable posters elsewhere said he had a procedure to move a nerve. Basically, I guess the nerve was in a spot that was causing it to become inflamed and cause pain. There is a major league pitcher that had possibly the same surgery and he wasn’t out too long. No Tommy John though. That is a rumor that is coming from reliable posters. Some think he will be back next year and a couple (who might know what they are talking about and might not) who don’t expect him back next year. The posters closest to the situation haven’t said anything about that though.

At the end of the day though, it sounds like JT was just a little unlucky with how a nerve was positioned. It is something that would have come up in the minors had he gone pro.

Sounds like you’re describing an ulnar nerve transposition. They are sometimes (often?) performed with Tommy John but can be performed alone. When you wake up and your 4th and 5th fingers are numb/tingling that’s what is getting squished at your elbow.

I don’t think its reasonable for even Ginn himself to know if he’ll be back next season. He will be drafted again in June. If a team takes a chance on him in the Top 5 rounds and he gets slot value or higher, he’ll have some thinking to do. If he goes in the 23rd round or something, obviously he’ll be back. But it’s flat out impossible for anyone to have inside info either way at this point.
