Give CC a break.

I'm curious how the players will respond to today's thrashing. If they all flood the portal then now's a great time to put a search committee together.

Jeff Goodman thinks Drew Valentine is going to have offers this year. There is a lot of MSU chatter that he will be the heir apprarent because they are somewhat connected to the program.

I just find it interesting. But I'll pass on the guy in his early 30s with one year of head coaching experience unless someone has incredibly intimate knowledge of what he did at Loyola.

I really thought the game today would go much better than it did. Signs pointed to the players and coach rising to the occasion. NU is clearly out of it's league. I have just joined the (other) give CC a break crowd, in the sense that IGNORE2 sees it--a permanent break. Beware though, replacing CC will need to be accompanied by other changes in the university's commitment to basketball. If not, the next 10 years will be no different than the past 20.

A) there is no other choice anyway, nobody is writing him a $9M check to go away. B) despite the hilarity from @Styre above, they were 6-6 in their last 12 B1G games. This is an unpolished, inconsistent team that reflects its coach. But - he's done the bare minimum to keep his job. It's the equivalent of going 6-6 in football reg season, including losing to Illinois and then losing the Quicklane bowl. Not bad enough to fire a guy.
Ok - no team, no fans, no media next year. Not bad enough for a ymca team I guess.

More of the same
Then can the program or make it a club sport or drop it from the B1G.

The program is embarrassing. Where’s the NU pride? We spend all this money on coaching and infrastructure? We are supposed to be smart people. This laughingstocking of a program does not project intelligence. Stupidity. Ignorance. Simply dumb.

Come up w any excuse you want. We field an expensive program and get nothing back. That’s just dumb.

Talk to the Administration. I outlined some thoughts that could be considered along with changing the Coach.

Part of the problem is the Smart people.

Do we have any influential donors who can say enough is enough? I know Pat Ryan is a hands-off guy, but anyone else? It is simply embarrassing to see this each season. We have all these super smart successful people and this is how we operate? I think it all starts at the top, and with a new president is there hope of a philosophical transformation? Will she want her own AD and punt on Gragg? Stay tuned folks......

Didn’t the team first reach the NIT in Carmody’s 9th season?
There's just a slight bit of difference between coming in to a program fresh off a winless conference season and coming into a program coming off of 4 NITs in a row prior to the final injury-marred Carmody season. I'll always appreciate Collins for getting us to the tourney, but he has shown an inability to get to the postseason, especially in 2016 and this year, and it's time for a change. If he had drawn up proper non-conference schedules in those two seasons, we might be seeing postseason basketball, but either way, we're treading water at best right now.

In the AP's recap of the game last night, there is a throw-away line toward the end stating that Northwestern has three senior starters unlikely to return next year. Who the heck would that be?

- Nance
- Audige ??
- Beran ??

Or is it utter crap and they are simply referring to Nance, Greer and Williams - two of whom are only minor role players?

And on the topic of dumb, someone said players have expected CCC to get fired. So, unless dense, one would presume CCC knows his seat is hot. If I was CCC, I would have thrown caution to wind end of last year to try anything and everything. Replace coaches, ask dad for help, play MN - anything to catch lightening and save my job.

CCC deserves to be canned simply for following the PF stubbornness approach. He doesn’t have PF level backing. If he is dumb enough to think his stubbornness shows anything more than stupidity, he doesn’t belong as a young head coach. Back to the assistant ranks for him to hopefully learn more.

Maybe and I argued he was there far too long. I was close with countless players who wanted him gone long before the 14 years he was given.

I have no problem with NU keeping CC, as long as they pay him only for team wins. $0 for each loss, $100K for each win. For the millions he has been earning, it should be incumbent on him to figure this out and produce at least a winning team.

You mean like the Best and the Brightest, who may have done more to f*** things up than anyone else?
