Glad to see Bowen get the start Tues. night.

It will keep us from throwing a Forrest Moore and save him for the weekend. He wouldn't throw anyway because of his past week of pitching, but you get the point. If we can go with Whitney, Routt and Moore for the weekend, we'll have a chance to take 2 of 3. (If the bullpen stays in Starkville)

you're going to be available for a lot of mid-week starts, because you sure as hell aren't going to be pitching much on the weekends. This has disaster written all over it. Of course, with this pitching staff, most any mid-week game has disaster written all over it. I'd almost be in favor of putting Routt and Whitney on offsetting rotations of Friday - Wednesday (5 innings) - Sunday. But the season's pretty much hopeless anyway, so no need to work our best pitchers that hard. But that rotation could work if anyone had the guts to try it.

That Bowen has completely fallen apart and STILL has a better ERA. That's baseball?

I like your rotation suggestion. You have to do stuff like that in desperate times. I would still see if Russ Sneed and Luke Atkins could possibly work an inning or so, or at least see what they've got in practice. Even if it's a fastball and a curve, just go with it.

Another crazy thing we could do is instead of throwing on the side during the midweek, have Routt pitch 3, Moore pitch 3, and then Whitney for 2, and Crosswhite for 1. That works well (subjectively speaking- very subjectively mind you) for Tues. Then on Weds go Whitney 2, Routt 2, Moore 2, Sneed/Atkins 1, Devin Jones 1, Crosswhite 1 on Weds.

This is so crazy I'm laughing here typing this. I don't even think I'm buying what I'm saying.

D Jones and Busby didn't throw either. I hope he'll go with Jones on Wed., think he has more potential than a lot of the others I've seen us put out there.

Cohen stopped throwing him. If he threw the same innings he did last year, Im sure it would be higher.

We just need to let different guys throw during the midweek. You can't win midweek and weekend games with 3 guys. We aren't going to regionals so I'd rather us not throw Rout, Whitney and Moore's arms out.

Or at least he was at one time.... This article was written five years ago.
A Call for a Three-Man Rotation

He has conditions, of course, such as pitching your starter less per start. That, of course, means using your bullpen more per game... which could be disastrous for this team.

Thoughts in general?

if you have a great pen. Few teams do. Plus, the majority of your midweek games don't require throwing one of your top 3 guys. No matter how good my pen is, I would never throw one of my best 3 against Valley and then only be able to throw them 60-70 pitches against LSU that weekend.

Because your #4 and #5 starters would be in the pen. Boyd makes some good points, but it breaks down for the reason you say.

Or even worse, what if you pitched your ace against MVSU on Wednesday and then his next start on Sunday against LSU got rained out.

are still always available for a couple of innings during the weekend anyway so I don't know that you really gain anything there.
