Glad to see Mullen and me are on the same page about Russell...

Mullen: He'll be given the opportunity to compete next fall. One of things I think you'll see is playing quarterback in the SEC is not the easiest thing out there … Tim Tebow's freshman year, he averaged eight plays a game. That was the year before he won the Heisman; he only played average in eight plays a game for the entire season. People look and say, "No, there's no way. He did a lot more for that Florida championship team," but he only played eight plays a game. That's about what he was ready to play at that point. Tyler's going to be given the opportunity to come in here and compete. I think one of the things though is there's going to be a big learning curve for him. Obviously I wouldn't have recruited him if I didn't think he was going to be a great quarterback in the future, it's just going to be a learning curve for him getting used to the college game

I don't see where Mullen said he won't start the Jackson State game either. He said he is going to be given a chance to compete. More than likely, that means he will come in for a little garbage time (if we have any garbage time), and then will come in to games when Tyson Lee is out there killing us and the game is lost or we can see where Russell might give us a spark. It's just common sense. I would say there is very little chance that Russell starts any games and very little chance that he redshirts. I could see people that are hopeful for next season buying with their hearts because Lee is not good at all, but common sense says we will bring Russell along slowly.

The way you posted the original post makes it sound like Mullen is finally taking your advice about Russell, and that you are the only possible person that could come up with the notion that we bring Russell along slowly.

I think the translation is: "If you are ready to play and can perform better than our next option, you will play. If you can master a few plays, then you can play like Tebow did as a freshman."

thats what I hear and that is a positive thing.

He won't redshirt and he hasn't taken a snap, but I still believe he will be up the curve to start before the season has gone very far, we will see.

I wish we could RS him. I still hope we can, but its almost impossible because we only have 2 QB's, and he makes 3.

Most people have been pretty sensible about him and the expectations. But we still have too many people thinking he is a God and is going to be our starting QB by the 1st or 2nd game. Its going to take him awhile to be ready to take the reigns, just like it did Jefferson at LSU last year.

before you got on the same page 34.You sound like Dan has been calling you every night for your insight on what the heck to do in our up and coming season. Your wife & kid might buy it but we don't. If you & Dan have already got to be big buds, then I'm sorry. For all we know , Dan might be paying you more than Rockey.

that kid will have been through, what, 3 weeks of practice? if he starts every game, y'all may go winless in the SEC. much more likely that Lee, who was fairly reliable last year, will start, with russell getting spot duty here and there and maybe starting much later in the season if Lee and Relf are just abject failures.

who think Russell will step in from day one and start. Plus he doesn't want Russell to feel as though he has to take on too much from the start. BUT, I be Mullen hope's that Tyler will be a fast learner and can play a good bit if needed.

started a true freshman qb has ever won the SEC. Not that i thought we would but TR is better than Relf and Lee put together. The biggest thing is for him to work on timing with the WR's and he can do that on his own this summer.

Tebow played on a very talented team and had a very good college QB ahead of him in Leak. Russell has LESS talent and a not so good college QB listed as #1. So I see a learning curve for Russell but he will have a crash course on the learning curve and will play often and early his 1st year. I just don't see a couple things happening, Lee making it through the season w/o getting "nicked" and playing at a high level game after game.
Btw, IF Tebow would have been at Msu his freshmen year, how many plays would he average? All Mullen is saying is "freshmen QB's need to learn and brought along slowly, Russell want have that luxury".

...with Mullen.

As much as you refuse to face reality concerning Stansbury, in equal measure, you refuse to face reality with Mullen.

Right now you are one of Mullen's most loyal sixpack wives.

But once you see how bad this crappy football squad is going to make Mullen look, you'll be filing for divorce after about the 4th game of the season.

And this is going to be a divorce drama I shan't miss for anything.
