A ton of attention this week is focused on the first-ever varsity match-up between Riverheads and R E Lee. To get us revved up for the big game, their JV teams also played what I guess was their first-ever game as well on Wednesday night.
The Junior Gladiators caught an early break when a Lee punt snap sailed over the kicker's head. RHS took over inside the 10 and punched it in for a quick 8-0 lead. They then added two more scores before halftime to go up 22-0.
However, to Lee's credit, they did not give up as they shut down the Big Red attack the rest of the way. They then took advantage of a Riverheads fumble and an amazing punt that trickled out of bounds inside the five to post a TD and a safety to make the game a little more interesting. But RHS did not panic and held on for the win.
Now in about another 24 hours, we will see what the Big Boy version of this new rivalry will have in store! Get there early!
