No. The wood bat is from my first batch of bats I ordered with the Astros.
This was another example of how inept they were in those days. I played in the half season NY-Penn league with mostly guys that were also just drafted. The first week there they tell us we need to tell them what bat to order for each of us. They were going to buy a dozen bats for each of us so you were going to be "stuck" with your choice for awhile. They had no examples of anything or catalogs or anything that would guide us to the hundreds of models that were produced at the time.
Happens that I used wood bats enough in my high school days that I had an idea of a bat that fit me well. I had great success with the Adirondack Joe Torre knobless model bat (219). So I ordered that in 35 inch 33 ounce with a cupped end. They come back the next day and say they were only ordering from Louisville Slugger so I had to order something else. I knew they made the U1 which was knobless but I never had really done well with it when I tried in in years past. So I am totally lost and have no help in ordering the most important tool to my future. So I go looking through the existing bats they had there to try and find something with a small knob that I could pinky with not too thin of a handle and a reasonable barrel size. I found an S226 that fit those basic parameters and so that is what I ordered. It amazed me the lack of thought and preparation behind such an important decision that the organization had. How were a bunch of guys that have probably never used a wood bat, and if they did it was probably a Jackie Robinson or an M110 model, suppose to know what would fit them best for competing at the highest level they could.
